INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team had its 2018 home opener spoiled as Bradley tallied a goal in the game's fifth minute and blanked the Jaguars in a 1-0 home defeat on Friday night (Aug. 31). BU's Gerit Wintermeyer flared a header over rookie goalkeeper Quinn McCallion for the game's lone score as Bradley improved to 2-0-1 on the season and the Jags dipped to 0-2 to start the year.

Bradley was the aggressor from the outset, controlling pace and possession, ultimately resulting in an early goal that sparked a full team celebration in front of the Braves' bench. Frank Bak sent service in from the flank to Wintermeyer, who redirected a header just over McCallion for his second goal of the season.

Wintermeyer and the Braves continued to test McCallion early and often, prompting the Jaguars' rookie to make four saves in the opening 15-plus minutes.

IUPUI's best build of the first half came in the 21st minute when Cameron Haegele made a determined run down to the endline before rolling a pass to freshman Riley Shives. However, Shives, who was the Jags' first substitution of the night, hit the shot well high of target.

IUPUI had better possession in the second half and were determined to draw even, particularly late in the match. The Jaguars had three corner kicks and the shot attempts in the final five minutes of the match, but were still unable to solve Bradley goalkeeper Nathan Wisbey, who collected a shutout in his first appearance of the season.

Bradley outshot the Jaguars 15-11 overall, fueled by Wintermeyer's seven attempts. Shives attempted a team-high three shots off the Jaguars' bench and Alan Aguilar and Tommy Driscoll had two apiece.

McCallion made six saves in his second collegiate start while Wisbey needed two saves at the opposite end.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Sunday when they face Evansville at 3:30 p.m. Eastern in a match that will be aired on ESPN+.
