INDIANAPOLIS – IUPUI volleyball begins a four-match homestand with a match against former conference rival Purdue Fort Wayne on Tuesday (Aug. 28) at 7 p.m. in the Jungle.
The Jags (0-3) will be looking to pick up their first win of the season after dropping their first three matches of the year at the Louisville Cardinal Classic. IUPUI dropped its first two matches in four sets to Southern Illinois and UT-Martin before being swept by Louisville.
GIBSON FILLS THE STAT SHEET
Senior
Maggie Gibson became the first Jaguar to record a triple-double since 2007 when she finished with 13 kills, 25 assists and 15 digs against Southern Illinois in the first match of the season. Gibson followed that up with a 13 assist, 13 dig performance, finishing just two kills shy of another triple-double.
IUPUI VS PURDUE FORT WAYNE
IUPUI is 18-25 against its rival from the north having dropped the last two matches against the Mastodons. Before the two losses, IUPUI had won six-straight against Purdue Fort Wayne with three of the matches going five sets.
SCOUTING PURDUE FORT WAYNE
Purdue Fort Wayne comes in to the match with a 1-2 record after beating Liberty but dropping matches to Indiana State and Oakland. Nicole Rightnowar leads the Mastodons with 4.45 kills per set and posted double-doubles in all three matches over the weekend. Madison Jaqua gets the offense moving for Purdue Fort Wayne, averaging 12.91 assists per set and dished out at least 44 assists in all three matches.
Defense is a team effort for Purdue Fort Wayne as four different players have at least 3.00 digs per set. Sydney Boerst is the top blocker with 1.00 blocks per set.
UP NEXT
After the Jags face the Mastodons, IUPUI will stay at home, hosting the Hampton Inn Invitational that will feature SIU-Edwardsville, Northern Arizona and Western Michigan. There will be two matches on Friday (Aug. 31) before four matches wrap up the tournament on Saturday (Sept. 1).
