Game Notes

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – IUPUI volleyball will begin its 2018 slate traveling to Louisville to take part in the Louisville Cardinal Classic on Friday (Aug. 24) and Saturday (Aug. 25). The Jaguars will play three matches at the University of Louisville, taking on Southern Illinois, UT-Martin and Louisville.

IUPUI will begin play on Friday morning, taking on Southern Illinois at 10:30 a.m. The Jaguars will finish up the day at 5:30 p.m. against UT-Martin. IUPUI's lone game on Saturday will be against host Louisville, with the match starting at 5 p.m. and will be broadcast on ACC Extra.

Last Time Out
Head Coach Steve Payne's squad began its season with a five-set win in an exhibition match at Notre Dame on Thursday (Aug. 16).

Key Figures

• IUPUI will begin its second season in the Horizon League and was picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll after finishing the 2017 season tied for second with a 12-4 record in conference play.
• Payne is entering his 22^nd season at the helm of the Jaguars program.
• IUPUI made its second post-season appearance in the 2017 season, making the NIVC. It was the second postseason appearance for the Jags after making the NCAA Tournament in 2013.
• Senior Abby Boatman enters the season in sixth place in school history in both block assists and total blocks. Boatman will move in fifth place with nine block assists and six total blocks.

Scouting Southern Illinois
The Jags will be facing off against Southern Illinois for the third time in school history and will be looking for their first win against the Salukis. The last time IUPUI faced off against Southern Illinois was in 2016.

Southern Illinois began its season with a 0-3 loss to Eastern Illinois in an exhibition. Last season the Salukis went 6-23 overall and 5-13 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Youth dominates Southern Illinois' squad as there are only two seniors.

Scouting UT-Martin
IUPUI and UT-Martin have split the two previous meetings with IUPUI winning the last meeting 3-0 in 2008.

UT-Martin dropped its exhibition 3-1 to North Alabama and was voted 11^th in the Ohio Valley Conference preseason poll. Despite the low ranking, UT-Martin posted its most wins last season since the 2011 season going 11-18 and 5-11 in conference play.
 
Scouting Louisville
The only meeting between IUPUI and Louisville came in 2011, when the Cardinals swept the Jags.

Louisville comes in to the season as the reigning co-champion of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Cardinals finished second in the ACC preseason coaches' poll, pulling in one first place vote. The Cardinals also had four players – Wilma Rivera,  Molly Sauer, Jasmine Bennett and Melanie McHenry – on the preseason all-conference team.
