SOUTH BEND, Ind. - IUPUI started the 2018 season on the right foot with a five set win over Notre Dame in the Jags lone exhibition match of the season.
The match was a back-and-fort affair as IUPUI won the first set 25-15 before Notre Dame tied up the match with a 25-14 win in set number two. The Jags too set three after the break 25-23 but the Irish forced a deciding set with a 25- 20 win in set four.
IUPUI controlled the final set, winning 15-6 in the last frame to take the match.
"It was good to get out and play against someone other than ourselves in this exhibition match to see what we are doing well and what we need improvement on before our first weekend of competition," said head coach
Steve Payne. "I thought our defense was doing a great job blocking and backcourt was very aggressive. We had a very balanced offense with all of our hitters contributing."
The Jags will begin their regular season in just over a week, competing in the Louisville Cardinal Classic on Friday (Aug. 24) and Saturday (Aug. 25). IUPUI's first home match of the season will be on Tuesday (Aug. 28) when the Jags play host to Purdue Fort Wayne.
