INDIANAPOLIS - The beat rolled on for the IUPUI women's soccer team on Saturday night (Sept. 30) as the Jaguars coasted past Green Bay, 3-0 at Carroll Stadium. Senior Hayley Shelton had a goal and an assist and freshman Valentine Pursey netted her team-high fifth goal of the year in the 30th minute for the game-winner. Junior Jessica Flores also tallied for the second time in as many games for the Jaguars while sophomore goalkeeper Sophia Lipka delivered her eighth shutout of the season to tie the program's single-season record.

The win was IUPUI's ninth straight and the Jaguars remained perfect in Horizon League play at 4-0.

"We have a lot of young ladies that are playing with a lot of confidence right now. I think we have a group defensively that is very confident in their ability to limit opportunities and keep opponents off the board," head coach Chris Johnson said. "At the other end, I think we have three really technical forward who can make things happen for us in that end of the field. Krissy brings a really strong work rate and V is really skilled in the attack. Miranda is one that has a lot of size and speed, but is also good with the ball at her feet and can hold off defenders well.

"When things are clicking for us, we can be a really hard team to go against."

That was the case on Saturday as the Jags yielded just nine Green Bay (2-8-1, 1-2-1 Horizon) shot attempts and only two on frame. Neither were particularly dangerous, although Lipka did benefit from a ball off the crossbar in the 35th minute to keep the Phoenix off the board.

Pursey broke through late in the first half off assists from Beth Parks and Braegan Lyon to give the Jags a 1-0 lead at the break. Lyon rolled a pass into the rookie inside the penalty area before she slotted a shot just inside the right post, past Green Bay keeper Kelly Kent.

Flores added insurance in the 56th minute on a nifty header, setup by Shelton's sixth assist of the season. For a brief moment, Shelton had sole possession of the program's all-time assist record with the 17th of her IUPUI career. However, Shelton tallied a goal in the 72nd minute off assist from Krissy Kirkhoff and Jillian Steinbrink as Kirkhoff collected her 17th career assist on the play.

Steinbrink played Kirkhoff into space up the left-hand side, leading to a driven cross into dangerous territory. Shelton, making a near post run, planted and redirected a shot past Kent for her third score of the season.

With the three goal lead, Johnson went deep into his bench as nine reserves saw action, paced by Bri Denny's 44 minutes and Parks' 41 minutes off the bench. After a season filled with full 90's for many of the starters, no player played more than 79 minutes on Saturday.

IUPUI was efficient offensively, needing just 11 shots and six on goal to tally a trio of goals. Pursey led the attack with five attempts while Shelton had three shots from her midfield spot.

The Jags' current nine-game winning streak is the second-longest in school history, trailing only the 12-game streak put together by Johnson's squad in 2009. That team finished the year 17-5 overall and earned the program's lone NCAA Tournament berth to date.

The Jaguars will be back in action on Friday, Oct. 6 when they travel to Youngstown State for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
