INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI volleyball team will open Horizon League play this week when the Jaguars host a pair of matches, beginning on Friday night (Sept. 22) at 6:00 p.m. against Wright State. The Jags will close the two-game homestand on Sunday (Sept. 24) against Northern Kentucky at 2:00 p.m.
On Friday, the first 100 fans in attendance will receive a FREE #JagsROAR t-shirt for their attendance. On Sunday, fans who wear a jersey of their favorite team will receive a discounted ticket.

Steve Payne's squad comes in on a four-game skid including a pair of losses in Green Bay to Cal Poly and North Dakota last weekend. Cal Poly coasted past the Jaguars 3-0 before IUPUI gave North Dakota all it could take in a five-set thriller. IUPUI (4-9, 0-0 Horizon) is still seeking its first three-set win of the year, but is 3-2 in five-set matches.

SCOUTING WRIGHT STATE: Wright State (6-7, 0-0 Horizon) is 5-5 away from home this season, including going 2-2 in true road matches. The Raiders have won three straight, having strung together victories over Southeast Missouri, Louisiana and Chicago State in Chicago last week. WSU also has wins over UMKC, Fort Wayne and Tennessee Tech this season. Katie Klusman leads the Wright State attack with 3.54 kills/set while Maddie Lohmeier averages 10.02 assists/set. Defensively, Jessie Thornton owns a team-high 5.26 digs/set and Megan Hopkins has 42 blocks up front. As a team, WSU is hitting .188 for the year while allowing foes to hit .210.
SCOUTING NORTHERN KENTUCKY: NKU (4-5, 0-0 Horizon) opened the season with four straight wins, but has since dropped five straight. The most recent loss came at No. 3 Florida in front of nearly 3,000 fans. Laura Crawford (3.58 kills/set) and Haley Libs (3.48 kills/set) lead NKU's offense while Ashton Terrill (4.30 digs/set) and Libs (3.79 digs/set) pace the defense. Shelby Olsen is the Norse' primary setter at 10.48 assists/set. Georgia Childers (23 blocks) and Kaelin Gentile (22) account for the bulk of the squad's blocking numbers.
INSIDE THE SERIES-
vs. Wright State: IUPUI is 6-4 all-time against Wright State and won four of the past five meetings in the series. The two teams last met on Aug. 25, 2012 in Huntington, W.V., with the Jaguars prevailing, 3-0. IUPUI is just 1-2 in the three meetings in Indianapolis against the Raiders.
vs. Northern Kentucky: IUPUI is 0-2 all-time against Northern Kentucky as the two teams haven't met since 1995. NKU defeated IUPUI 3-1 on Sept. 28, 1993 and 3-0 on Oct. 11, 1995. Both matches took place in Highland Heights, Ky.
UP NEXT: IUPUI will hit the road in Horizon League play for a two-game trip, beginning at Cleveland State on Friday (Sept. 29) before culminating at Youngstown State on Saturday (Sept. 30).
