MEN'S SOCCER TO FACE OAKLAND ON ESPN3

Jags (0-4, 0-1 Horizon) come in seeking first win of 2017 at Oakland (1-5, 0-1 Horizon)

Live Stats I ESPN3 Video

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Two teams will look to get off the schneid in Horizon League play on Saturday night (Sept. 16) when the IUPUI men's soccer team travels north to face Oakland at 7:00 p.m.. IUPUI comes in seeking its first win of the young season while Oakland is amidst a five-game skid after a season-opening win.

IUPUI (0-4, 0-1 Horizon) showed well in a 2-1 midweek loss to DePaul earlier this week, yielding a pair of long goals to ace marksman Philipp Konigstein. DePaul struck first with a Konigstein bullet in the tenth minute, but IUPUI pulled even in the 32nd minute. A cast of characters got in on the scoring play as freshman Cameron Petersen crossed a ball into enemy territory from the left side. Fellow freshman Gianni Catenacci flicked a pass into a scrum where senior Uriel Macias tried to punch a shot through traffic. However, the rebound squirted out wide right where freshman defender Tommy Patacca rolled a composed finish inside the right post for his first career score.

The assist was the 26th career point for Macias, who is still working back into the rotation after missing the start of the season.

DePaul broke through in the 48th minute when Konigstein belted a free kick just inside the post from long distance, beating IUPUI redshirt freshman Michael Buck on the play. Neither team mustered much in the attack from there as DePaul keeper Quentin Low didn't have to make a save in the win and Buck made just one stop in defeat.

For the year, sophomore midfielder Pedro Valladao continues to lead the Jaguars with three points while Yan Souza and Patacca have the team's other two goals. Macias and junior Sam Gavin account for the squad's two assists.

In goal, Buck has a 2.00 goals against average, having yielded a pair of scores in all four starts. The Bloomington, Ind.-native has 11 saves in 360 minutes.

QUOTABLE: "There were times when the score of the game changed, we could've been better to try and press a little higher up the field and try to do things more from there. We won the ball in some critical areas and we were able to get at them on the counter, but unfortunately if you look at the stat box on the night, we didn't make their goalkeeper make any saves. If you don't make the opposing goalkeeper make any saves, it's a tough way to win college soccer games," said IUPUI Head Coach Brian Barnett after the DePaul match.

SCOUTING OAKLAND: Oakland (1-5, 0-1 Horizon) has dropped five straight after a season-opening 3-2 win over VCU. Most recently, OU fell 2-1 at Western Michigan after opening Horizon League play with a 2-0 road loss at Wright State. Nebojsa Popovic leads Oakland with two goals and an assist, including the game-winner against VCU. Austin Ricci has a team-high 16 shot attempts, having put nine on target in six matches. In goal, Liam McQueenie has started three of Oakland's six matches and owns a 2.33 goals against average and 12 saves, while having yielded seven goals.

UP NEXT: IUPUI will continue on the road on Tuesday night (Sept. 19) when the Jaguars take on Louisville at 7:00 p.m. from UofL's Lynn Stadium. That match will be broadcast on ESPN3. Louisville is currently ranked No. 12 nationally and plays at No. 7 Syracuse on Saturday.
