INDIANAPOLIS - DePaul's Philipp Konigstein scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner early in the second half as the visiting DePaul Blue Demons came into Carroll Stadium and picked off the Jaguars, 2-1. IUPUI (0-4) freshman Tommy Patacca netted his first career goal late in the first half off a Uriel Macias assist for the Jaguars' lone tally of the evening.

DePaul controlled possession for much of the match, but the majority of their 12 shots came from long distance. Konigstein fired seven of his team's 12 attempts, many flying wildly errant.

"I think that when we come into this game with the scout, we know that DePaul is going to pride themselves on possession, as they should, because they're a good team. With that, we were going to let them have the ball in a certain area of the field," IUPUI head coach Brian Barnett said. "When they did get in attacking areas, I thought we did a good job of stepping to them and challenging them and winning some balls."

DePaul (3-3) took a quick lead in the tenth minute on a world class finish off the right foot of Konigstein. The Blue Demon attacker took possession deep in IUPUI territory before blazing a shot just inside the right post from long distance, beating redshirt freshman Michael Buck on the play.

IUPUI got even in the 32nd minute when Patacca put away his first score in a Jaguar uniform. Freshman Cameron Petersen sent a cross into enemy territory to Gianni Catenacci, who headed the ball into a pack of players from both sides. From there, Macias tried to punch a shot through, but instead saw the ball rebound out wide right where Patacca had an easy left-footed finish with DePaul keeper Quentin Low unable to recover on the play.

The score remained 1-1 until the 48th minute when Konigstein struck again.

This time, he rifled a free kick from distance just inside the post for his fifth goal of the young season.

IUPUI created opportunities down the stretch, but were unable to get anything on frame against the DePaul defense.

"There were times when the score of the game changed, we could've been better to try and press a little higher up the field and try to do things more from there. We won the ball in some critical areas and we were able to get at them on the counter, but unfortunately if you look at the stat box on the night, we didn't make their goalkeeper make any saves," Barnett said. "If you don't make the opposing goalkeeper make any saves, it's a tough way to win college soccer games."

The Jags' only semblance of a shot on goal in the second half came when Pedro Valladao hit a ball off the inside of his foot in the direction of Low, only to see the DePaul keeper scoop it up just before Yan Souza could get on the connecting end.

Similarly, DePaul had just one other shot on goal in the second half as Konigstein fired a bullet near the right post, but Buck was able to snare it for his only save of the evening.

Cameron Haegele and Sean Siasia led IUPUI with two shots apiece as IUPUI was outshot 12-10.

IUPUI will return to Horizon League play on Saturday (Sept. 16) when the Jaguars face Oakland at 7:00 p.m. at the Oakland Soccer Field.
