The Jaguars will be playing in the postseason for the first time since 2014 when IUPUI faced host Denver in the four-team Summit League Tournament and lost to the Pioneers, 1-0.
Krissy Kirkhoff is the only current Jaguar to have started that contest while
Leia Peterman and
Hayley Shelton both appeared off the bench that day.
This year's Jaguars (13-5-1) closed the regular season with a 1-1 draw with No. 2 seeded Northern Kentucky on Friday night (Oct. 27) with both teams tallying late in regulation in a back-and-forth affair. Freshman
Valentine Pursey staked the Jaguars to a 1-0 lead in the 83rd minute, only to see NKU's Macy Hamblin tie it up in the 85th minute. NKU was content with the draw as they staved off the Jaguars for the No. 2 seed in the league tournament, earning a bye into the semifinals round.
The Jaguars reeled off 12 straight wins during the regular season with an early season 1-0 win over Cleveland State accounting for the fifth win in that span. Freshman
Miranda Ricks netted the game-winner in the 96th minute for the Jags' lone overtime victory of the regular season.
Kirkhoff finished the regular season as IUPUI's leader in points with 20, scoring six goals and distributing a school record 10 assists. Half of her six goals have been game-winners. Pursey has a team-high nine goals (five game-winners) and Shelton has four goals and eight assists. Ricks and
Jessica Flores have three scores each.
In goal, sophomore
Sophia Lipka is 11-3-1 on the year with a 0.65 goals against average and sensational .875 save percentage. She's recorded nine shutouts in her 15 starts and has benefited from a solid back line, keyed by freshman
Natalie McNally and sophomore
Jenna Sterr.
JACOBS AND SHELTON HONORED: On the final day of the regular season, seniors Sarah Jacobs and Hayley Shelton learned they had both been voted Academic All-Horizon League by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
THE FIRST MEETING: IUPUI was fortunate to win the regular season meeting with Cleveland State as Ricks tallied off assists from

Ricks Postgame Interview
HAT TRICKS: Pursey posted the eighth hat trick in school history in the 4-3 win over Wright State and is the seventh player in school history to score three goals in a game. That list includes Sarah Leonard, Karrie Reising (twice), Cat Raster, Tori Minnich, Kirkhoff and Tara Latella. It was the first hat trick by an IUPUI player in league play since Sarah Leonard scored three goals against Youngstown State in October 2001.
KIRKHOFF TAKES OVER: Kirkhoff recently took over as the program's all-time points leader with her two-goal performance against Fort Wayne. The Indianapolis-native enters the postseason with 79 career points (29 goals, 21 assists), surpassing the previous mark of 74 held by Megan Hock (2008-11). Kirkhoff also holds the program's all-time record for assists (21) while Shelton is currently second all-time with 19. She is third on the program's all-time list in goals scored (29), trailing only Hock (32) and Karrie Reising (31).
TEAM ACADEMIC AWARD: IUPUI captured the program's eighth straight United Soccer Coaches (formerly NSCAA) Team Academic Award on Oct. 5. It's the 12th time in program history the Jags have been recognized and the program's 3.72 grade point average ranked third among the nation's Division I programs.
SCOUTING CSU: Cleveland State closed the regular season at 9-9 overall and 5-4 in Horizon League play. For the season, the Vikings outscored opponents 27-23 and outshot opponents by just more than a shot per game. Jenna Prathapa led the CSU offense with six goals and three assists while Dani Sowinski had five goals and two assists. McKenna Vento and Grace Grant closed the regular season with four goals apiece. Six different CSU players had a game-winning goal this season and 11 different Vikings had at least one point this season. In goal, Jamie Daniels had a 1.26 goals against average and .726 save percentage while registering four shutouts.
INSIDE THE SERIES: IUPUI is 4-3 all-time against Cleveland State, which includes the 1-0 overtime win earlier this season. The Jaguars are 3-1 in the four prior meetings in Indianapolis.
UP NEXT: IUPUI hopes to move to the Horizon League Semifinals on Thursday night (Oct. 2) with a win over the Vikings. Should that be the case, IUPUI would play No. 2 Northern Kentucky at 5:00 p.m. Eastern in Milwaukee.
