MILWAUKEE, Wisc. - On paper, a matchup of one of the nation's two remaining undefeated teams against the owner of the nation's second-longest winning streak would appear to be a clash of titans. However, the undefeated Milwaukee Panthers, who received votes in this week's national rankings, coasted past the Jaguars, snapping IUPUI's 12-game winning streak in the process. Milwaukee scored five times in the first half en route to an easy 6-0 win.
McKaela Schmelzer had two goals and an assist and Lourdes Onwuemeka tallied twice for the Panthers.
Milwaukee (13-0-3, 6-0-2 Horizon) scored the game's first goal in the 12th minute and never took off the gas, scoring four times in a 10-minute stretch between the 23rd and 33rd minutes.
Onwuemeka staked the hosts to an early lead by tapping home a rebound opportunity in the 12th minute and Schmelzer made it 2-0 in the 23rd minute. Aubrey Krahn tallied 72 seconds later and Sydney Senn scored in the 30th minute from point blank range.
Onwuemeka capped the first half scoring, volleying a shot past freshman goalkeeper
Skylar England in the 33rd minute.
Schmelzer added some second half insurance in the 60th minute to cap the day's fireworks.
IUPUI (13-4, 6-1 Horizon) was outshot 24-7 and 11-4 on frame and had very few dangerous opportunities in being shutout for just the third time this season.
Senior
Krissy Kirkhoff had a team-high three shot attempts and freshman attacker
Valentine Pursey had two tries. Pursey had the Jaguars' best look of the match, putting a header on frame in the 73rd minute that UWM keeper Mallory Geurts kept clean.
Wednesday's contest was the first-ever meeting between the two schools in women's soccer.
IUPUI will cap the road swing at Oakland on Saturday (Oct. 21) at 1:00 p.m. on ESPN3.
