RASTER'S GAME-WINNER SENDS JAGS HOME HAPPY

Seniors Tori Minnich and Cat Raster tally second half goals in come-from-behind win

CHARLESTON, Ill. - Senior Catherine Raster netted a go-ahead goal in the 84th minute to cap the IUPUI women's soccer team's 2-1 come-from-behind victory at Eastern Illinois on a rainy Friday afternoon (Sept. 9). After going down a goal just after halftime, IUPUI rallied thanks to goals from senior Tori Minnich and Raster to improve to 4-2-1 on the season.

Minnich had pulled the Jags even midway through the second half and Raster came through with the winner, thanks to Maryna Clark's team-high sixth assist of the season. The come-from-behind effort sent freshman goalie Sophia Lipka to her first career victory in goal.

"It was great to get the win," Clark said. "We didn't start out how we wanted to, but we fought back hard in the second half and Tori and Cat were there to put them away for us."

IUPUI controlled the run of play in the first half, but had nothing to show for it heading to halftime in a scoreless draw. The Jaguars even went empty on a PK try late in the first half as junior goalie Catherine Schmidt had her attempt go awry in the 36th minute.

Things got dire in the 47th minute when Kayla Stolfa gave the hosts a 1-0 lead off an Emma Sacro assist.

However, Minnich got the Jags even in 60th minute, thanks to an assist from Raster. Raster slipped a quick pass to Minnich, who slotted her team-high fifth score of the year past EIU goalie Sara Teteak.

With the score tied, Head Coach Chris Johnson opted to give his starters an extended rest for bringing his first team back with just under 10 minutes remaining. The move worked to perfection as IUPUI found the game-winner just more than three minutes later.

Clark slid a pass to Raster near the top of the 18, who drilled her fourth score of the year for the winner. Clark remained atop The Summit League leaders with her sixth assist of the year and now has at least one assist in five of the team's seven games.

IUPUI has now outscored foes 10-2 in the second half this season. Lipka, who relieved Schmidt early in the second half, didn't need to make a save in registering the win.

"We knew that we could play better so we wanted to come out into the second half with fire," Raster said. "Today's game was all about fight and we battled to get those two goals in the second half. A win is a win and we were just happy to come out of there on top."

The Jags will cap a five-game string of road games on Tuesday night (Sept. 13) with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against Butler at the Butler Bowl.
