MUNCIE, Ind. - Sophomore
Amairany Cruz led nine IUPUI entries at the Ball State Duals on Friday afternoon (Sept. 23), placing fifth overall as the Jaguars squared off with the host Cardinals. Head Coach
Antonio McDaniel ran his reserves, opting to give the varsity group another week to prepare for next week's meet at Notre Dame.
"It was a solid showing for the group overall," McDaniel said. "Amairany ran a big race today and was rewarded with a PR. This is the strongest she's looked all season.
"
Ashley Kidwell was definitely the star of the meet. She ran a massive PR and moved up the entire meet. She was hoping to break 20 (minutes) and she did that easily today. She's worked extremely hard to go to this position point and all of us are very proud of her."
Cruz took 16 seconds off her personal best in her fifth-place finish while Kidwell, a sophomore, shed 46 seconds off her past best with a time of 19:21.9.
"Despite the heat, the course was a perfect course for a PR," Cruz said. "What motivated me was that very last open spot left on varsity. A few of us ran so well today, so I'm proud of all my Lady Jags."
"The Jag pack atmosphere at Ball State was electrifying and I couldn't be more thankful for my teammates, who encouraged me the whole race," Kidwell said.

Jennifer Emery was tenth overall with a season-best time of 19:31.0 and sophomore
Allie Wright was 12th at 19:37.2. Redshirt freshman
Megan Zajac rounded out the scoring five in 14th overall in a time of 19:54.8.
True freshman
Rachel Saylor was 16th at 20:21.2 and
Nicole Hampshire was 18th at 21:34.4.
BSU's Emily Tromp won the race in a time of 18:30.7.
The Jags will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 30 when they participate in the Notre Dame/Joe Piane Invitational at the Notre Dame Golf Course. The meet is expected to start at 2:00 p.m. Eastern.
