TOURNAMENT FINALE SLIPS AWAY, JAGS FALL TO RED WOLVES

The Jags finished the Hoosier Classic Volleyball Tournament without picking up a win in three contests.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Closing out the weekend with their final tune-up before Summit League play, the IUPUI volleyball team (4-11) fell in straight sets (15-25, 23-25, 17-25) to Arkansas State (8-6) Saturday (Sep. 17) in the University Gymnasium.  The Jags finish the weekend winless after picking up just one set victory.

The Jags were led in the match by Abby Boatman with nine kills and three block assists.  Gabby Fisher had seven kills, seven digs and three block assists, while Alexis Mapes had 22 assists.  Elizabeth Scott picked up the only solo block for IUPUI, adding a block assist and three kills.

As a team, IUPUI was limited to just a .136 attack percentage, committing 16 errors to 28 kills.  The Red Wolves hit .375 as a team, which included a stellar 14-kill performance by Anna Murphy.  Murphy hit .632 in the match and throttled the Jag defense all match long.

The defense continued to show why it is the identity of this Jaguar team, as IUPUI picked up seven blocks in the match.  Their play at the net has been strong, but the back row only managed 24 digs to 39 for Arkansas State.

The weekend featured a handful of highlight performances, most notably the standout efforts of sophomores Boatman and Scott who emerged as playmakers for the Jags.  Logan Walling broke the all-time total blocks record at IUPUI in the matinee match against Indiana, and the Jags pieced together a number of highlight plays that demonstrated there is a plethora of talent on this team.

The Jaguars will have a chance to right the ship next weekend when they begin Summit League play on the road against South Dakota State Friday (Sep. 23) in Brookings, South Dakota, before heading north to play the Bison of North Dakota State Saturday (Sep. 24).
