VOLLEYBALL HEADS TO BLOOMINGTON FOR FINAL TOURNAMENT

The tournament will be the last of the season prior to the start of Summit League play for IUPUI.

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Competing in their final tournament before the start of Summit League play, the IUPUI volleyball team (4-8) will make the short trek south to Indiana University for three matches at the Hoosier Classic Volleyball Tournament, set to be held Friday and Saturday (Sep. 16-17).  The Jags will open action Friday against Cleveland State (7-2) at 5 p.m. EST, followed by a pair of matches Saturday against Indiana (9-1) at 12 p.m. and again at 5 p.m. against Arkansas State (6-5).

The Jags are led this season by Kori Waelbroeck, who has picked up a team-high 156 kills, averaging 3.71 per set.  The 3.71 currently ranks third-best in the Summit League, while the 156 ranks second.  Abby Boatman ranks fifth in the Summit League with an average of 1.00 blocks per set, amassing a team-high 42 on the year.  Alexis Mapes ranks third in the League with 9.21 assists per set, amassing 387 in total.

Logan Walling is on the cusp of making IUPUI history, as she currently holds 370 total blocks in her career.  With 41 blocks on the year, she's just five shy of tying the all-time record at IUPUI held by Tracy Bailey (375).  She's also just four solo blocks shy of tying Bailey for second-place all-time at IUPUI.  Former All-American Kaitlyn Hickey holds the record with 76.

The Jags have continuously faced stout opposition this season, a trend that will not end this weekend.  Having already faced four teams that have received votes in the top-25 national poll, the Jags will open action against a Cleveland State team that has picked up three straight-set sweeps this season, and most recently ran the table at the Temple Invitational.  Their lone losses came against Notre Dame and Boise State.  The Vikings are averaging 13.68 kills per set to just 11.55 for the Jags.

Saturday's action begins with the host team, who have dropped just one match this season.  The Hoosiers most recently fell in five sets to Florida Gulf Coast, which halted a nine-match winning streak to start the season.  In addition, their previous four matches had all come as straight-set victories.  The team features a stout .307 attack percentage, overshadowing IUPUI's .168 mark, but are just below the Jags block average (2.06 to 2.17 for IUPUI).  The Red Wolves of Arkansas State have the highest kills per set average of any team in the tournament, logging a 14.46 mark.  The match will certainly pit an offensive team in ASU against a defensive team in IUPUI.  The Jags have a better average in digs and blocks per set.  The Red Wolves are coming off back-to-back losses to Tulsa and Missouri State.

Every match for the Jags this weekend will have some type of live cover.  The Friday match against Cleveland State and the Saturday match against Arkansas State will have live, audio-only play-by-play coverage available on IUPUIJags.com for free.  Follow the link HERE to access the events.
