INDIANAPOLIS – Following a pair of out-of-town preseason tournaments for the Jags, the IUPUI volleyball team (4-7) will return home to the Jungle for a mid-week non-conference contest against the Dayton Flyers (10-0) at 6 p.m. EST Tuesday (Sep. 13). The match comes following a long weekend for the Jags, in which the team went 2-2 in four matches at the Dr. Mary Jo Wynn Invitational in Springfield, Missouri. This will be the first match broadcast via Webstream this season for volleyball, as live video coverage will be provided for free on IUPUIJags.com.
This season, the Jags are led by
Kori Waelbroeck, who has 140 kills (second-most in the Summit League) while averaging a team-best 3.59 per set. The average is good enough for third-best in the Summit League. Recent performances include a pair of 16-kill outings this past weekend, in addition to a team season-best 24 kills against Ball State (Aug. 31).
Alexis Mapes recently set a career-high with five kills in a victory over Green Bay (Sep. 9). She's paced the offense with 361 assists, averaging a Summit League third-best 9.26 per set.
Jessica Helms currently has a team-high 147 digs, ranking fifth in the Summit League.
Defensively, the Jags have seen the surprise emergence of
Abby Boatman, who has tallied a team-best 40 blocks this season, ranking fourth in the Summit League with 1.04 blocks per set.
Logan Walling continued to add to her career numbers this past weekend, totaling 37 blocks on the year with eight solo blocks. The effort pushed her career numbers to 366 total blocks, just nine shy of the all-time program record held by Tracy Bailey (375). Walling's 56 career solo blocks put her in third-place all-time at IUPUI.
Gabby Fisher has been a solid contributor on both sides of the court, racking up 109 kills while contributing 128 digs. She's added 11 blocks and a team-high 13 service aces, ranking eighth in the Summit League.
The Flyers are flying high this season, riding a 10-match win streak to start the year. Carrying a spotless record, the team has picked up six straight-set sweeps this season, most recently having completed the Evansville Dunn Hospitality Tournament in Evansville, Indiana without dropping a set. The weekend included wins over Kent State, Evansville and Austin Peay. In the most recent AVCA top-25 poll, Dayton fell just outside of the national rankings, tallying 91 votes behind 110 for #25 Kansas State.
