BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The IUPUI men's soccer team will open the 2016 regular season at Bowling Green on Friday night (Aug. 26) when the Jags face the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. at Cochrane Field. The game will mark the start of the
Brian Barnett era of IUPUI men's soccer, who took over for
Isang Jacob earlier this month.
The Jaguars yielded just one goal during the preseason with a scoreless draw against UIC and a 1-0 loss to Evansville. Sophomore goalie
Josh Gray authored a pair of scoreless outings during the preseason, while accumulating seven saves in more than 107 minutes of action. Behind him, redshirt freshman
James Mitchison posted a 1.24 goals against average, allowing a score in his 72-plus minutes.
Offensively, the Jags failed to score in both preseason tilts and were paced by
Cristian Soto in the midfield and
Trevor Semakula from the defensive third. Both attempted a team-high three shots in exhibition play, as did junior
Pape Ndiaye. Soto brings back three goals and two assists from a season ago and sophomore defender
Ben Thornton tallied twice last year.
This year, Barnett played 20 different players during the preseason with 16 different Jaguars earning at least one start.
Bowling Green is coming off a 9-9-1 season and returns their top three scorers from a season ago in Pat Flynn (9 goals, 4 assists, 22 points), Joe Sullivan (6-5-17) and Jacob Roth (5-4-14).
IUPUI is 1-2-2 all-time against BGSU with the two teams last playing last season to a 2-2 draw in Indianapolis. Soto and Clint Hoffar had goals for the Jags while Hoffar,
Nick Anderson and Jacob Singer earned assists.
