JACOB STEPS DOWN AS HEAD MEN'S SOCCER COACH

Isang Jacob guided the Jags the past five seasons

INDIANAPOLIS - IUPUI head soccer coach Isang Jacob has resigned his position at the helm of the Jaguars' men's program, effective immediately. Jacob is stepping aside to focus on his family and pursue other professional opportunities.

"I'd certainly like to thank the IUPUI Administration and Dr. Perry for their support in this decision," Jacob said. "I'd also like to thank Mike Moore for giving me the opportunity to become a Division I head coach at IUPUI. I'll always be a Jaguar and I love this university tremendously.

"Some things have happened in my life where I'd like to get back to focusing on my faith and my family. That's what is most important to me. This wasn't an easy decision by any means, but I think it's best for myself and the program going forward."

Jacob compiled a 20-49-19 record in five seasons at the helm of the program, including a 10-14-7 mark in Summit League play. In all, he coached 10 All-Summit League players including 2012 Goalkeeper of the Year Eduardo Cortes and 2014 Newcomer of the Year Uriel Macias. Cortes was a four-time All-Summit Leaguer and later inked a professional contract with Saint Louis FC prior to this season. Jacob also helped kick start the professional career for current OKC Energy back Kyle Hyland, who spent one season with the Columbus Crew before playing the past two years for the Indy Eleven.

Hyland scored eight goals and collected Third Team NSCAA All-Region honors his senior year before becoming the Jaguars' first-ever MLS player.

Jacob also coached an Academic All-American (Perez Agaba) and four Academic All-Summit League selections. His teams set a new standard for academic success, receiving the NSCAA Team Academic Award in 2012 and 2014 and the 2014 Summit League Academic Award.

"I'm very proud of what our boys have done in the classroom, on the field and after they've graduated. We've had some very great kids come through the program," Jacob said. "We've served as ambassadors for the university and tried to make an impact in the Indianapolis community and that's something I take great pride in."

The university will begin a national search immediately as the season is set to begin against UIC on Aug. 16 at the on-campus Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
