INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will cap the 2016 season on Saturday night (Nov. 5) when the Jaguars host Eastern Illinois in Summit League play at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. The match will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. and admission is FREE of charge. The program will honor the senior trio of
Carlos Albor,
Cameron Knox and
Cristian Soto prior to the start of their final home game in an IUPUI uniform.
ABOUT THE SENIORS
   Albor is a two-year letterwinner for the Jaguars and enters the weekend having played in 11 games and making six starts. Knox, a four-year letterwinner, has played in 37 games and made 20 starts, including starting the Jaguars' last eight games.
   Soto, a four-year starter, has made 61 career appearances and 58 starts entering play. He's amassed five goals and six assists in his collegiate career and was named to The Summit League's All-Newcomer Team as a true freshman in 2013.
SCOUTING THE JAGUARS (1-15-1 overall, 0-5 Summit)
  IUPUI is 1-15-1 on the year and 0-5 in Summit League action. Junior forward
Uriel Macias has scored three of the team's six goals while
Pape Ndiaye is second on the team with two goals.
  The trio of
Ben Thornton,
Pedro Valladao and
Joshua Ayala are tied for the team-high with two assists each.Â
    Defensively, sophomore
Josh Gray has started 15 of the 17 matches in goal and has a 2.64 goals against average and 72 saves for a .643 save percentage. Redshirt freshman
James Mitchison has started the other two matches, recording a 3.15 GAA and 13 saves in 200 minutes. Â
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOIS (5-10-1 overall, 2-3 Summit)
  Eastern Illinois is 5-10-1 overall, but just 1-6-1 in true road matches this season. Alex Castaneda leads the Panthers with three goals, including two game-winners. Davis Wegmann is second on the squad with two scores and 10 others have one goal .Collectively, EIU has been outscored 24-15 on the year.
   Julian Montoya and Yann Nsoga have a team-best two assists.
   In goal, Mike Novotny has a 1.28 goals against average in 15 appearances and has yielded 19 goals in 1335 minutes. He's posted four shutouts and a 5-8-1 mark with a .736 save percentage this season.
ACADEMIC HONORS
  Head Coach Brian Barnett's Jaguars earned NSCAA All-Academic Team honors on Thursday for their work in the classroom during the 2015-16 year. The men's team registered a 3.32 grade point average during the 2015-16 academic year, collecting the program's seventh award in school history (2004, 2007, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2015 & 2016).Â
INSIDE THE SERIES
  IUPUI is 5-5-3 all-time against Eastern Illinois in a series that began in 1999.
   EIU won last year's meeting, 1-0 in Charleston on Oct. 25, 2015 on a goal in the 50th minute. IUPUI outshot the Panthers 10-3 overall and 5-1 on goal in that match, but still were saddled with the loss.
LAST TIME OUT
  IUPUI dropped a 5-0 decision to Valparaiso on Monday (Oct. 31), including yielding a trio of goals in 81 seconds in the second half. Valpo built a 2-0 lead before halftime and added some late icing when VU's Kendan Anderson scored three goals just more than a minute of game action.
