FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The IUPUI men's soccer team's recent string of close calls added another chapter on Saturday night (Oct. 29) as the Jaguars fell in double overtime at Fort Wayne, 3-2. The Jaguars needed a late equalizer from junior
Pape Ndiaye to force the extra periods before ultimately falling on the road.
IUPUI (1-14-1, 0-5 Summit) broke open the scoring in the 34th minute when sophomore
Sean Siasia deposited his first career goal, courtesy of a
Yan Souza assist. Siasia blasted a shot through traffic, past Fort Wayne (9-8, 2-3 Summit) goalie Jorge Trujillo.
Despite facing a Fort Wayne onslaught, the lead held until the 57th minute when Matthew Lieshout drove a restart past IUPUI netminder
Josh Gray. Things got worse in the 72nd minute when Carmelo Morales hit a shot off a defender and past Gray to give the hosts a 2-1 lead.
However, Ndiaye scored a goal for the second straight game, this time settling a ball near the top of the 18 before lacing a shot inside the left post.
Senior
Cristian Soto had two quality looks in the 79th and 80th minutes and rookie
Alan Aguilar nearly ended the match in regulation, hitting a shot off the post with just 32 seconds remaining. The hosts were also denied by the woodwork as Lieshout hit the crossbar in the 93rd minute.
However, Lieshout got redemption in the second overtime, getting an assist on the game-winner via a corner kick. His corner was redirected by teammate Cam Sinclair, giving the hosts the victory on Senior Night.
Ndiaye attempted a game-high eight shots, although he and his teammates were outshot 23-15. Gray made five saves in the defeat.
IUPUI will cap non-conference play on Monday night (Oct. 31) when the Jaguars face Valparaiso at 7:30 p.m. Eastern in a match that will be broadcast on ESPN3.
