JAGS SPUTTER AT VALPARAISO IN 5-0 DEFEAT

IUPUI's offense rendered without a shot in shutout loss

VALPARAISO, Ind. - The IUPUI men's soccer team capped the non-conference slate at Valparaiso on Halloween Monday (Oct. 31), finding the holiday more tricks than treats in a 5-0 loss to the Crusaders. The hosts tallied twice before halftime and IUPUI yielded three late scores in a forgettable late 81 second stretch to account for the final margin.

VU's Kendan Anderson finished with a hat trick and Demar Rose tallied the game-winner in the game's 18th minute. IUPUI was held without a shot as VU goalie Nico Campbell earned an uneventful shutout.

Rose put the Crusaders in front early in the first half when he flared a shot over IUPUI sophomore goalie Josh Gray, who was caught off his back line. In the 24th minute, VU's Isaiah Madrid rifled a free kick past Gray to build a 2-0 first half lead.

That margin held true until the 84th minute when Anderson scored off a penalty kick, awarded after junior defender Fritz Alexandre was red carded for intentionally knocking down an attempt inside the penalty area. Fifteen seconds later, Anderson struck again when he got loose on a breakaway and beat Gray before rolling a shot into the empty net.

Anderson capped the hat trick 66 seconds later when he took an Adan Garcia feed and angled a shot in from the right side.

Valpo (10-4-3) finished with 16 shots and nine on goal, forcing Gray to make five saves.

IUPUI (1-15-1) will close the regular season on Saturday night (Nov. 5) when the Jaguars host Eastern Illinois in Summit League action at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. That match will kickoff at 8:00 p.m. due to the Indy Eleven playoff game at Carroll Stadium earlier that day.
