INDIANAPOLIS – Midway through their lengthy home stand, the IUPUI volleyball team (9-14, 5-3) will host a pair of Summit League foes this weekend, as the Jags welcome Omaha (5-17, 2-6) to the Jungle Friday night (Oct. 21) at 7 p.m. EST for the annual Dig Pink match, followed by South Dakota State (3-17, 2-6) in a 3 p.m. Sunday (Oct. 23) matinee.

Coming off perhaps their most exciting victory of the season, IUPUI has been led this season by Alexis Mapes, who tallied career-highs in assists (61) and digs (20) Tuesday (Oct. 18) against Fort Wayne.  Mapes has tossed 767 assists this year, averaging 9.59 assists-per-set, second-best in the Summit League.  Kori Waelbroeck has continued to thrive in her junior season, knocking 282 kills on a 3.53 average, both third-best in the League.  Gabby Fisher has been a double-double machine, logging 243 kills and 250 digs in her third season at IUPUI, while Abby Boatman is up to 85 total blocks, averaging 1.12 per set.

The Jags have won three matches in a row, the highest win streak of the 2016 season.  The team currently sits in fourth-place in the Summit League standings, matching Fort Wayne's League record and falling behind just Denver and South Dakota.

Omaha just completed a three-match home stand, which was capped with a five-set victory over North Dakota State Sunday (Oct. 16).  The Mavericks only other League victory came in a five-set victory over Oral Roberts on the road, while the team was defeated by IUPUI in their earlier matchup (Oct. 8), falling in straight-sets.  With that victory, IUPUI now holds a 9-1 record when facing Omaha, losing only in the first round of the Summit League Tournament last season.  This season, the Mavs are hitting .148, while averaging just 1.6 blocks-per-set.  The Jags average 2.2 blocks-per-set, limiting their opposition to 1.71.

Like the Mavs, South Dakota State has won just a pair of League matches, most recently topping Western Illinois in five sets Sunday, while also defeating Omaha earlier in the year (Sep. 30).  Prior to their victory over WIU, the Jackrabbits had lost five-straight League matches, their second-longest losing streak of the season (lost nine-straight earlier in the year).  The Jaguars are 13-6 all-time against SDSU, winning 10 in a row dating back to the 2011 season.  All but one of the 10 matches have come in straight-set sweeps, with the other being a five-setter on Sep. 21, 2012.  SDSU is hitting just .128 this year, averaging 10.8 kills-per-set and 1.4 blocks.

Friday will mark the Jaguars annual Dig Pink match, in which the team, partnered with the Sideout Foundation, is trying to raise $1,400 to go towards a clinical trial for stage-four breast cancer.  To contribute to the cause, please visit the donation page HERE.
