TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The IUPUI women's cross country team returned to the ISU Pre-Nationals Invitational for the first time since 2011 on Saturday (Oct. 15) and were led by the underclassman duo of
Zoey Johnson and
Katelyn Murphy at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course.
Johnson finished 39th of 168 runners in a time of 22:09.9 in the 6,000m race, putting her time 14th on the program's all-time list. Murphy was 73rd in her first collegiate 6K, finishing at 22:41.2 and junior
Kelsey Tyler finished 79th at 22:48.2.
Collectively, the Jags finished 20th of 25 teams with 415 points. Oregon won the race with 114 points, followed closely by Wake Forest (131), Nevada (166) and UTEP (182). Fresno's Annemarie Schwanz took the individual tape in a time of 20:48.5.
The old and the new rounded out the Jags top five in succession as
Savannah Clark was 114th at 23:16.5 and
Shelby Pake was three seconds behind her in her first-ever 6K. Sophomore
Alexis Lewandowski ran 23:44.2 and classmate
Amairany Cruz rounded out the lineup at 23:55.5.
In the open race,
Valeria Guzman was the Jaguars' top finisher at 23:44.1 and sophomore
Ashley Kidwell was just behind her at 23:53.0.
The Jags will now turn their attention to the Oct. 29 Summit League Championships, to be run in Macomb, Ill..
