Full Results (.pdf)GREEN BAY, Wisc. - The IUPUI swimming and diving teams split duals at Green Bay on Saturday (Jan. 16) with the men's squad capturing a 130-112 victory over the Phoenix. The women's squad dropped their meeting with Green Bay, 120-104.
"This was a nice road win for our men today," IUPUI Head Coach
Matt Bos said. "I am proud of how our guys stepped up the second half of the meet in a close battle with a team that was racing well in their home pool on their senior night. Down the stretch, we had a nice 1-2 finish in the 200 breast from
Jon Stoller and
Garrett Goff and finished the meet with a pool record in the 400 free relay."
Freshman
Ben Levart helped the Jaguars to the win, winning both the 500 and 1000 freestyle events while Stoller, Goff and a late relay win sealed it. Levart collected IUPUI's first individual win of the day, claiming the 1000 in a time of 9:38.88, touching nearly 12 seconds ahead of his closest competition. Junior
Lennart Kuester followed suit by winning the 200 free in a time of 1:43.60, touching just ahead of teammate Richard Sunkel.
Jared Allen and
Aaron Brysch went 1-2 in the 50 free before Stoller won the 200 IM in a time of 1:55.47.
Adam Wait won the 200 butterfly in a time of 1:54.70 before Levart claimed his second win, coasting to victory in the 500 free. Stoller followed with his second win of the day by claiming the 200 backstroke at 2:07.81 while Goff closed at 2:10.32.
The night ended with a huge effort in the 400 free relay as Brysch, Kuester,
Trenton Wolfe and Allen notched a time of 3:04.99.
Freshman
Krisztian Somhegyi continued his dominance off the boards, winning the 3-meter with an effort of 335.47. He placed second off the 1-meter board with a six-dive score of 304.87.
"Illness and injuries have piled up and we were just overmatched by a very good team with few weaknesses," Bos said. "
Alexis Bullard raced well with a nice win in the 200 back and had a solid leadoff in the 400 free relay.
Maranda Buha also put in some nice relay swims and despite not being 100 percent, continually battles for us."
Stephanie Krause earned the Jaguars' first individual win of the night, swimming a season-best 2:14.07 in the 200 butterfly to win by more than two seconds.
Madison Taylor,
Brittani Grove,
Lexie Meade and
Lauren Campbell took the top four spots in the 100 free, paced by Taylor's 55.07.
Bullard won the 200 backstroke in a time of 2:07.04, touching more than three seconds ahead of her closest competitor. Alllison Cicero and
Jordyn Harrison took the top two spots in the 500 free and
Mary Klueh won the 200 breaststroke with an impressive time of 2:28.34.
Junior
Bailey Wills was the best of IUPUI's divers on Saturday, placing second at 238.42 off the 1-meter board. She posted a season-high 276.30 off the 3-meter board while
Melissa Berger was third overall at 259.20.
IUPUI will return to action next weekend when the Jaguars' men's team will swim against Wabash College and the women will host Youngstown State. The men's meet with Wabash will be Friday night (Jan. 22) at 6:00 p.m. while the women's swim with YSU will be Saturday (Jan. 23) at noon.
