Tori Minnich scored a pair of goals in an 86 second span and sophomore
Leia Peterman netted a goal and an assist as the Jaguars raced past Northern Iowa, 3-2.
UNI (2-2-2) struck first as Amber Nieland angled a shot past IUPUI (2-2-1) sophomore goalie
Catherine Schmidt in the game's sixth minute. However, the Jaguars responded with three goals in less than four minutes, beginning with Peterman's first career tally in the 29th minute.
Peterman took a pass from
Hayley Shelton and dipped a shot just under the crossbar from the top of the 18. Peterman's score ignited the Jaguars' offense, which had been blanked and held to just one shot attempt in its last outing.
Minnich shouldered the load from there, scoring her second goal of the season in the 31st minute. Peterman initiated the attack, resulting in Minnich chipping a shot over UNI goalie Whitney Blunt to give the Jaguars a 2-1 lead.
The lead grew to 3-1 when
Krissy Kirkhoff freed Minnich with a pass, leading to Minnich's third career multi-goal game.
"It's never fun going down a goal in the beginning like that, but it says a lot about our team to come back and get the win," Minnich said. "A lot of teams would have just shut down, but we came together and figured it out. The win sure will make the seven hour trip home a little more enjoyable."
Things got tight early in the second half when UNI's Annie Dale scored on a sliding finish past
Nicole Kulovitz, who allowed her first goal of the season. However, both teams were held off the scoreboard from there.
Freshman
Denise Veldman hit the crossbar in the 67th minute and Minnich had multiple looks to complete the hat trick, but was stopped by reserve goalie Maddie Lesjak twice.
Schmidt earned the win in goal, making four first half saves before Kulovitz relieved her with three second half stops.
Minnich paced the Jags with five shots, putting four on target.
The win snapped a two-game skid and moved the program's record to 3-1 all-time against UNI.
The Jaguars will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 11 when they take on Xavier at 6:30 p.m. in Cincinnati.
