Carroll Stadium on Friday night (Aug. 21). The Jaguars will host Eastern Illinois on Friday night at 7:00 p.m. before returning to the pitch on Sunday (Aug. 23) to host UIC at 1:00 p.m.. Admission is free and open to the public.
Friday marks the 18th season of IUPUI women's soccer with Head Coach
Chris Johnson having been at the helm of the program for 13 seasons. Johnson's squad dropped a 3-0 preseason decision to Ball State last weekend, albeit with as many as five starters sidelined due to injury.
IUPUI was recently picked fourth in The Summit League preseason polls and returns nine starters from last year's 7-10-3 squad. Leading the way is reigning Summit League Freshman of the Year
Krissy Kirkhoff (9 goals, 1 assist) and junior forward
Tori Minnich (7 goals, 2 assists). In goal, sophomore
Catherine Schmidt (1.21 GAA, 71 saves) comes off an All-Summit League campaign in her rookie season.
Johnson's squad also boasts a senior core of
Sierra Bryant,
Lauren Kulaga,
Grace Perkowitz and
Kalli Shepler-Tucker, all of whom have started at least 40 career matches. Kulaga leads the group with 58 career starts while Shepler-Tucker ranks second on the program's all-time list with 14 career assists.
SCOUTING EASTERN ILLINOISEastern Illinois is coming off a 2-15-2 season and 1-8-1 mark in Ohio Valley Conference play. Hannah Miller is EIU's top returning scorer, having posted eight points (3 goals, 2 assists) her junior season. In goal, Kylie Morgan is one of four goalies on the EIU roster and the lone returner of the bunch. She made four appearances last season with a 2.25 goals against average and 19 saves.
SCOUTING UICUIC went 3-15 last season and 1-7 in Horizon League play. Junior forward Jasmin Carrera is the Flames top returner, having posted 10 points (4 goals, 2 assists) last season. Kelly Fritz returns in goal, having recorded a 1.98 goals against average and 118 saves in 17 appearances as a freshman.
SERIES RECORDSIUPUI is 1-4-1 all-time against Eastern Illinois, having defeated the Panthers 3-2 last season. The series began in 2000 with EIU winning the first four meetings from 2000-2010.
The Jaguars are 0-1 all-time against UIC, having been defeated 2-0 in Chicago last season. Sunday's match marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools in Indianapolis.
