Brooke Boetjer gave up just one hit in six innings of work, and
Roni Patterson went 3-for-3 from the plate leading the IUPUI softball team to a 7-0 win over Butler at the IUPUI Softball Complex Wednesday evening.
The win upped the Jaguars record to 18-8, while Butler fell to 14-12 overall.
Boetjer kept the Bulldogs off-balance all day and kept them without a hit for the first three innings. Meanwhile, she received some early run support with Patterson lining a solo home run over the right-center field wall in the bottom of the first.
IUPUI then widened its lead in the third sending nine to the plate resulting in four runs. Following a ground out to start the inning, an infield single from
Delilah Wright and a single down the right field line from Patterson placed runners on the corners. An ensuing walk to
Eryn Dillon loaded the bases, and
Megan Cory brought home two runs on a double to right center field that dipped just below the glove of the diving Butler center fielder. A RBI single from
Taylor Chitwood and a sacrifice fly from
Jazmine Pedrotti concluded the scoring in the third upping the margin to 5-0.
The IUPUI offense continued to put pressure on the Bulldogs tacking on another run in the fourth on a RBI bloop single that plated
Ali Mosier, before Mosier got her first RBI of the day with a double off the wall in the fifth that scored Schlobohm.
Nickole Finch entered the circle in the seventh in relief of Boetjer and after giving up a single, Finch forced a foul out and struck out two to finish off the shutout.
The Jags return to Summit League action this weekend when they host South Dakota at the IUPUI Softball Complex. The series doubleheader begins on Saturday, March 28, at Noon.
