NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Georgetown jumped out to a three-run lead in the first inning, but
Brooke Boetjer held the Hoyas scoreless the remainder of the way and the IUPUI offense scored five unanswered runs giving the Jags a 5-3 win over Georgetown Sunday afternoon in their final game of the 2015 Music City Classic at Draper Diamond.
The win evened the Jaguars record at 2-2, while Georgetown fell to 2-2.
Boetjer threw her second complete game of the opening weekend going 7.0 innings and giving up five hits and three earned runs while striking out seven to also improve to 2-2 on the season. In total, both teams combined for just nine hits, but three Georgetown errors proved costly.
The Hoyas jumped out to the lead in their first at-bat scoring three runs with two outs highlighted by a two-run homer.
IUPUI quickly erased its three-run deficit in its next at-bat thanks in part to some Georgetown errors.
Eryn Dillon led off the inning with a walk before moving to third on an error by the pitcher during the next at-bat that also put
Taylor Chitwood on first base. Following two strike outs,
Morgan Schlobohm reached base on an error by the Hoyas' third baseman, which allowed Dillon to score and Chitwood to advance to third. Four pitches later,
Ali Mosier lined a double to right-center field scoring both Chitwood and Dillon to even things up at 3-3.
An inning later, the Jags used some two-out hits of their own to produce two more runs. Dillon doubled with two outs to put a runner in scoring position, and Chitwood then blasted a two-run home run to left field to place IUPUI in front, 5-3.
From that point, Boetjer did the rest holding the Hoyas to just three base runners the rest of the way with only one of those runners reaching second base. In the final frame, she set the Hoyas down in order to preserve the victory.
Up next for the Jaguars is a five-game tournament in Kennesaw, Ga., Feb. 13-15. In Kennesaw, IUPUI will square off against Morehead State, Kennesaw State, No. 6 Kentucky and Southern Illinois.
