JAGS HANDLE OAKLAND CITY, 104-30

Nicole Rogers goes 9-of-15 from deep for 27 points

INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI women's basketball team erased Oakland City early in Tuesday's (Nov. 24) game at The Jungle as the Jags jumped out to a 26 point lead in the first quarter and cruised to a 104-30 win.

Just a day after junior Mikale Rogers was named Summit League Player of the Week, it was the other Rogers–Nicole Rogers–who caught fire in this one. Rogers (Nicole) lit up the Oaks from the three-point line, going 9-of-15 from deep for a game-high 27 points. It was the senior's most impressive performance since she went for 34 last year against IU-Kokomo. Senior Akilah Sims added 12 points and five rebounds while sophomore Jenna Gunn scored 10 first half points before finishing with season-high 14. Junior Caitlin Tolen had two season-highs with nine points and seven assists.

The Jags took about a minute to get rolling and it was pretty much over by the second minute. IUPUI jumped out to an 18-9 lead just a few minutes in. In the blink of an eye it was 35-9 by the end of the first quarter.

Coach Parkinson took the opportunity to rotate a montage of players, getting all 13 active players into the rotation in the first half. Sophomore Jenna Gunn led the charge scoring 10 first half points including eight in the first quarter.

Senior Akilah Sims had a big first half as well, scoring eight of her 12 as she could do whatever she pleased on offense. The Jags held a 41-point lead at the break in complete control, 55-14.

The second half was all Jags as well. IUPUI extended the lead to 54 (75-21) after a pair of deep shots from senior Nicole Rogers with under three minutes to play in the third quarter. Rogers caught fire for the second time in the game after knocking down three in a row (3-of-4) for nine first half points. The back-to-back triples in the third quarter gave her a game-high 15 before the fourth.

Sophomore Martha Burse also played a big role in the third. When she took the court she immediately scored on a fast break and threw two dimes in her first three possessions. Burse finished with six points, six rebounds and two dimes. The Jags led 77-26 at the end of the third.

In the fourth, the Jags dialed it back a notch with a patient offense. Nicole Rogers continued to dial it up. She knocked down two more trifectas that pushed the Jag lead over 60 before netting two more to put the cap on the IUPUI 74-point victory.

IUPUI will be in action again on Saturday (Nov. 28) against IU-Southeast at The Jungle in Indianapolis.
