INDIANAPOLIS - The Jags used a balanced attack and strong defense to beat Omaha in four sets on senior night. The win gives the Jags the second seed in the Summit League tournament and a first round bye.
The big win came on senior night as four Jags,
Skylar Wright,
Courtney Halter,
Kelly Wachtel and
Kaitlyn Hickey played their final game in the Jungle.
"This was a very good win. Second seed is very important...We play so well at home, only one or two losses for [our senior's] careers at home," said head coach Steve Payne. "It's huge to finish up with a win for those girls."
Four players finished in double figures with kills for IUPUI (21-9, 14-4) led by Hickey with 17. Sophomore
Kori Waelbroeck had 14, junior
Logan Walling finished with 12 and  Wright added 10.Â

"These were great numbers for the team," said Payne. "We played good defense, Omaha played good defense also. Back and forth. A lot of long rallies and really good digs."
Omaha (17-12, 12-4) was solid on the defensive side as well with 101 digs on the night, 12 more than IUPUI, but the Mavericks hit .040 less than the Jags and finished with 24 errors compared to IUPUI's 18.

The set went back and forth until IUPUI went on a run to take a 12-8 lead. That lead was gone quickly after four straight points from the Mavericks. Omaha took a 19-17 lead but the Jags took control of the set thanks to two aces by Halter. IUPUI used an 8-1 run to win the first set 25-20.
Â
The offense picked up for both teams in the second set, the Jags hit .258 to Omaha's .212. Omaha jumped out to a 6-2 lead but the Jags quickly answered to tie the set at nine. After that IUPUI scored seven of the next nine points and would not relinquish the lead the rest of the way winning set two 25-20 and taking a 2-0 match lead in to the break.
Â
IUPUI could earn the sweep with a third set win and got out to an early 4-1 lead but Omaha tied up the match at six. Omaha took the lead and increased it to a five-point lead at 20-15. The Jags fought back to take the lead 22-21 but the set was far from over. Omaha scored the next point to tie the set and from there the teams would trade points with IUPUI fighting off five set points for Omaha before and error by Walling gave the Mavericks the third set 30-28.Â
The Jags started the fourth set in control going up 5-2 early but just like the rest of the match the lead did not last long and Omaha tied the set at five. The back and forth action continued until the set was tied at 10. From there two straight kills by Hickey and a kill by Waelbroeck started a run that put the Jags up 16-12. After that, the closest Omaha would get the rest of the way was four and the Jags won set four 25-18 after back to back kills by Waelbroeck.Â
The win gives the Jags the second seed in the Summit League and a first round bye. The Jags will be back on the court in the semifinals of the Summit League tournament Saturday, Nov. 21.Â
