OMAHA, Neb. – Last weekend, the IUPUI volleyball team wrapped up the first half of its season at the Miami Invitational, and this week it turns its attention to Summit League play as the Jaguars kick off conference action by traveling to Omaha and North Dakota State.
The Jags begin their league slate at Omaha on Friday, Sept. 26, before concluding the opening weekend of action on Sunday, Sept. 28, at North Dakota State. Friday's match is scheduled to start at 8 p.m. ET, while Sunday's match will begin at 2 p.m. ET.
"Everything to this point has been set up to get us ready for Summit League play," head coach
Steve Payne said. "We're ready to get started this weekend, but we need to be ready each and every match because we know we are going to get everybody's best shot."
Through the first half of the season,
Kaitlyn Hickey has been IUPUI's top offensive threat averaging 3.20 kps.
Kelly Wachtel is right behind Hickey averaging 2.93 kps, but she has been the most effective hitter posting a .267 hitting percentage which ranks eighth in the conference.
Hickey collected her 1,000th career dig in the Jags win over UAB last Saturday, and now she approaching 1,000 career digs needing 58 to reach the career milestone.
IUPUI ranks in the middle of the pack in the conference in most statistical categories, but this weekend they will take on one of the best blocking duos in the league in Omaha's Megan Schmale and Michaela Schimmer. Schamle and Schimmer rank second and third, respectively, in the conference in blocking averaging 1.22 and 1.10 bps, and collectively the Mavericks are second in the league with 2.78 bps.
The Bison are led by Jenni Fassbender, who ranks seventh in the league in kills (3.08 kps) and third in aces (0.35 sa/s). NDSU is the league leader in digs averaging 15.98 dps and it is led in that category by Emily Milligan's 4.27 dps.
