Watch LiveINDIANAPOLIS – The final week of non-conference action for the IUPUI volleyball team begins on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when the Jaguars host the Indiana Hoosiers in their 'Pack the House' night at The Jungle.
Wednesday's match is set to start at 7 p.m., and the Jags are attempting to break a new attendance record which was originally set 10 years ago this September when Indiana came to town.
"Our team feeds off of the energy from our fans  and when they are loud the players intensity seems to be higher," head coach
Steve Payne said. "We are going to need all of our fans to be loud and into the match on Wednesday. Indiana is a good team and we're excited we get to host them in our gym."
The Hoosiers are 7-1 on the young season with its lone loss coming to Illinois-Chicago in five sets last Friday in Chicago. The Hoosiers are averaging 14.06 kps this season led by Amelia Anderson's 3.57 kps, and they have also won the service battle totaling 58 aces compared to just 21 for their opponents.
Defensively, Awele Nwaeze and Jazzmine McDonald average 1.10 and 1.00 bps, respectively, and when they are not blocking the opposition, Courtney Harnish is picking up the slack in the back row with her 4.94 dps.
The Jags are coming off a 2-1 record last weekend at the Evansville Tournament and they were led by
Kaitlyn Hickey and
Beth Howard. Both Hickey and Howard earned All-Tournament recognition after Hickey averaged 4.10 kps and hit .314 and Howard posted 4.80 dps.
Hickey is now the Jags team leader in kills averaging 3.13 kps and she is followed by
Kelly Wachtel at 2.97 kps.
Wednesday's meeting between IUPUI and Indiana will be the fourth meeting, including the second in Indianapolis. The Hoosiers lead the series 3-0.
