EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Kaitlyn Hickey hit .452 and put down 15 kills, but it wasn't enough as tournament host Evansville defeated the IUPUI volleyball team 3-0 in the finale of the Evansville Tournament Saturday evening.

The Jags dropped to 4-7 with the loss while the Purple Aces improved to 4-7.

"We really had our offense working in set two with 19 kills, but we lost some easy opportunities that unfortunately cost us a few points and Evansville didn't make many errors," Payne said. "That made the difference and we just need to do a much better job keeping the intensity level high for every set and match."

A pair of four-point runs in the first set fueled by three kills from Hickey and two kills from Kori Waelbroeck helped the Jaguars overcome an early deficit and take a 12-8 lead. Evansville retaliated by taking 10 of the next 13 points to jump back in front, 18-15. From that point, IUPUI closed within two points six times, but it could not get over the hump as the Purple Aces finished off the first set with a 25-22 win.

Similar to set one, the Jags sprinted out to a 12-8 lead with 10 of the 12 points coming off kills. IUPUI held a lead as late as 20-19, but Evansville won four of the next five points to take a 23-21 advantage. A kill from Kelly Wachtel and a block from Waelbroeck and Logan Walling knotted the score at 23-23, but Evansville won the next two points to win set two, 25-23.

After falling behind 8-4 in set three, three kills from Hickey and a kill from Skylar Wright helped the Jags battle back and take a 12-11 lead. Ten consecutive points from Evansville catapulted the Purple Aces in front, 21-12, which proved to be the difference before cruising to a 25-19 victory.

IUPUI returns to The Jungle on Wednesday, Sept. 17, when the Jaguars host Indiana at 7 p.m. Wednesday's match will be IUPUI's 'Pack the House' Night as it looks to set a new attendance record against the Hoosiers. Admission is free to Wednesday's match.
