INDIANAPOLIS – Following a tough loss to Indiana State in its home opener on Tuesday, the IUPUI volleyball team looks to get back on track this weekend when it heads to Evansville, Ind., for the University of Evansville Tournament.
The Jaguars will square off this weekend against the tournament host Purple Aces, Central Michigan and DePaul in the two-day event that begins on Friday, Sept. 12.
IUPUI enters the tournament with a 2-6 record after suffering a mid-week loss to the Sycamores. The Jags jumped out to a two sets to none lead only to see ISU capture the final three sets to secure the comeback win.
Evansville enters the weekend with a 2-6 record after also dropping a mid-week decision to Tennessee. The strength of the Purple Aces squad lies in their blocking as they average 2.55 bps this season led by Meaghan Holmes 1.29 bps.
DePaul and Central Michigan own 2-4 and 0-6 records, respectively.
For the Jaguars,
Kelly Wachtel and
Kaitlyn Hickey are leading the way offensively averaging 2.93 kps and 2.79 kps, respectively, but as a team IUPUI is putting down 12.21 kps compared to 13.55 kps for its opponents.
Hickey also ranks second on the team in digs with 2.97 dps sitting behind
Beth Howard's 4.48 dps. Hickey is approaching 1,000 career digs and needs just 62 to become the 17th player in school history to reach the career milestone.
The Jags are a combined 8-11 all-time against this weekend's field, which includes a 2-1 record against DePaul, a 1-2 mark versus Central Michigan and a 5-8 record against Evansville.
