INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI men's soccer team will host crosstown rival Butler in a regionally televised home opener on Tuesday (Sept. 3) night at 7:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium.
Tuesday's match will be broadcast on HTSN as Greg Rakestraw will be on the call.
As part of Pack the House Night, the IUPUI Athletics Department will distribute free #imajaguar t-shirts to fans in attendance, while supplies last. Admission to IUPUI soccer matches is free of charge but fans are
subject to university parking rates.
On the field, IUPUI (0-0-1) looks to build off its double overtime scoreless draw at Detroit on Friday as sophomore goalkeeper
Eduardo Cortes turned in his sixth career shutout. The reigning Summit League Goalkeeper of the Year helped keep reigning Horizon League Player of the Year Adam Bedell in check, making five of his six stops against the 6-foot-6 striker. Offensively, the Jaguars still seek their first goal of the 2013 season after having been blanked in both exhibitions prior to Friday's opener. Freshman midfielder
Cristian Soto led the attack with three shot attempts at Detroit and
Ben Ogedegbe,
Olayode Ahmed and
Lance Davis had two each.
Butler (1-0) opened the year with a 2-1 home victory over Western Michigan behind a goal and an assist from Zach Steinberger and a goal from Jeff Adkins. BU goalie Jon Dawson made seven stops in the victory.
IUPUI trails the all-time series with Butler 2-10-2, with two of the losses coming prior to the Jaguars' move to Division I in 1998. The Jaguars beat Butler 3-0 at Kuntz Stadium in the 2011 season behind a pair of goals from
Ian Block, before dropping last year's match 2-0 at the Butler Bowl.
