INDIANAPOLIS - Coming off an impressive 3-1 exhibition display at Northern Kentucky last Saturday night, the IUPUI women's soccer team will open the 2013 season with back-to-back home matches this weekend at Michael A. Carroll Stadium. On Friday (Aug. 23), the Jaguars will host Green Bay on Club Soccer Night at 7:00 p.m.. On Sunday (Aug. 25), Head Coach Chris Johnson's team will host the University of Indianapolis at 1:00 p.m.

On Friday, IUPUI will give a scarf to each leader who brings a group of 25-or-more individuals to the match.

On the field, IUPUI built positive momentum last weekend with the 3-1 win at NKU, fueled by goals from Kalli Shepler-Tucker, Grace Perkowitz and Catherine Raster. Shepler-Tucker and Perkowitz staked IUPUI to a 2-0 lead in the game's first 18 minutes before NKU split the deficit in the 20th minute. However, Raster added insurance early in the second half and freshman goalkeeper Nicole Kulovitz made five saves in a scoreless 45 minutes to stave off the Norse. Senior goalkeeper Giselle Guzman yielded a goal and made a save in the first half en route to the win.

Shepler-Tucker led the feisty IUPUI attack with three shot attempts and both Anna Rode and Alyssa Fox had two attempts. Rode and Sarah Carlisle were each credited with an assist while Sierra Bryant also aided in two of the three goals. After netting just 13 goals in 19 matches a year ago, Johnson was pleased with Saturday's offensive output.

"When you go into any season, you're just hoping you can score goals. You never know until you get out there and play. A lot of people did a good job today. Our forward line was aggressive and fast getting down the field. They did a good job getting in behind and making us dangerous. It was fun to watch."

Johnson's squad was recently picked to finish seventh in The Summit League, but expects much more with an influx of talent among this year's freshman class. All total, Johnson blended in seven new faces last Saturday with Raster and Maddie Riedford earning starting nods.

Friday's match marks the first-ever meeting between IUPUI and Green Bay in women's soccer while the Jaguars enter the weekend at 1-0 all-time against UIndy. The Jaguars knocked off the Greyhounds 3-2 on Sept. 16, 2003 at the St. Francis Soccer Complex in Johnson's first season with the program.

Green Bay went 5-10-1 a year ago while UIndy is coming off an 8-9 campaign.
