COLUMBIA, Mo. - Fresh off a narrow defeat at Big Ten foe Northwestern on Friday, the IUPUI (1-4) basketball team will head west to take on undefeated Missouri (4-0) in game two of the 2013 Continental Tires Las Vegas Invitational on Monday (Nov. 25) night. Monday's game is slated to tip-off at 8:00 p.m. Eastern and can be seen on ESPN3. In addition, the IUPUI radio broadcast can be heard on WNDE 1260 AM or on the iHeartRadio app as Will Flemming (pxp) calls the action from courtside inside Mizzou Arena.

The tournament will continue in Las Vegas later this week when the Jaguars play Gardner-Webb on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 28), followed by a Friday (Nov. 29) match-up with either Chattanooga or Morehead State.

IUPUI just missed upsetting Northwestern on Friday night in Evanston before falling 63-61 on a JerShon Cobb running 14-footer with 2.3 seconds to play. After a timeout, IUPUI got the ball to Khufu Najee, who just missed a half court launch as time expired. Najee's shot hit the top of the square on the backboard and the front of the rim before falling off. Junior guard Ian Chiles led all players with 19 points in the loss and senior center Mitch Patton chipped in 18 points and six boards. The Jaguars built 11-point leads in both halves, but the host Wildcats outscored the Jaguars 25-12 over the final 10 minutes to claim a come-from-behind victory. NU's top scorer, Drew Crawford, was held scoreless in the first half but finished with a team-high 12 points and 10 rebounds.

IUPUI shot a season-high 51.1 percent from the field, thanks to an 8-of-12 effort from Chiles. However, Northwestern (3-2) used an 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers and a 21-4 edge in second chance points to help earn the win. Northwestern was especially opportunistic in second chance scoring in the second half, including getting a key Tre Demps three after a missed free throw, constituting a rare five-point possession. The Jaguars were 1-0 all-time against Northwestern prior to Friday's defeat. The loss was the fourth time in the program's Division I era that the Jaguars had lost to a BCS-level opponent by just a single possession.

The way this year's schedule falls, the current two-game swing is the first time IUPUI has played against BCS foes in back-to-back games since December 2008. Five years ago, IUPUI lost to the James Harden-led No. 20 Arizona State in overtime in Phoenix, Ariz., before rebounding to win on the road at Seton Hall eight days later.

For this year's squad, Chiles has continued to be the mark of consistency, scoring in double-digits in the season's first five games. The 6-foot-1 junior guard, who missed virtually all of last season to an injury, leads The Summit League in scoring at 19.2 points per game while Patton is second at 16.8 points a night. The quartet of Chiles, Patton, Najee and Donovan Gibbs have handled the bulk of the team's scoring, while sophomore point guard Marcellus Barksdale has filled a number of voids from the backcourt.

Barksdale, who also missed most of last season to injury, leads The Summit with 7.4 defensive rebounds per game and had a career-high five blocked shots against Northwestern. In addition, the Lexington, Ky.-native delivered five assists and had six boards in a career-high 38 minutes work.

Missouri used a big second half to capture a 72-63 win over Gardner-Webb on Saturday, led by 17 points from Earnest Ross. Jordan Clarkson chipped in 14 points and five assists and Jabari Brown had 13 points in the win. Freshman forward Johnathan Williams had 17 rebounds, seven points and three blocked shots for the Tigers as well. Naji Hibbert and Jerome Hill led Gardner-Webb with 17 points each.

For the year, Brown and Clarkson lead Mizzou in scoring at 18 points per game as the Tigers have beaten their first four foes by an average of 17.5 points per game. Three of Mizzou's four wins have come at home in the season's early going. Monday's game will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Jaguars are 0-5 against Southeastern Conference opponents heading into play.
