MACOMB, Ill. - The IUPUI women's soccer team gave up three first half goals to Summit League foe Western Illinois on Saturday (Oct. 26), ultimately falling to the Leathernecks, 5-2. The loss kept the Jaguars winless for the seventh straight outing.

"(WIU) came to play today," IUPUI Head Coach Chris Johnson said. "They had 13 seniors and they came to play. They were ready and we weren't and that was the difference.

"We just didn't come out and get it done like we needed to."

Despite playing into a stiff win in the first half, WIU (7-8-2, 2-3 Summit) went in front in the game's eighth minute on the first of Sarah Hall's two goals on the day. However, IUPUI (4-9-4, 0-4-1) knotted the score less than a minute later when freshman forward Tori Minnich scored her team-high fourth goal of the year. Senior back Sarah Carlisle collected her team-high fifth assist of the season on the play, tying the score for the moment.

From there, it was seemingly all Western Illinois.

WIU's Jordan Spaciel made it 2-1 with her first goal of the year in the 13th minute and Hall scored the eventual game-winner on a penalty kick in the 36th minute. Hannah VanEendenburg put the Leathernecks in front 4-1 in the 49th minute before Alyssa Fox made it 4-2 in the 51st minute.

Fox collected a loose ball deep inside WIU territory and snuck a shot past goalkeeper Laura Atkinson for her second goal of the year.

Amber Davis capped the game's scoring in the 63rd minute, netting a header off Sloane Levin's restart. Davis finished with a goal and an assist.

"It was windy for everybody, so that's not an excuse," Johnson said of the conditions. "They just wanted it more than we did. We did some good things, but didn't really put it all together."

IUPUI senior goalkeeper Giselle Guzman had a busy day, making nine saves and yielding all five goals before giving way to freshman goalie Nicole Kulovitz in the 68th minute. Kulovitz went largely untested over the final 20-plus minutes in net. Atkinson made two saves to collect the win for the hosts.

Western Illinois outshot the Jaguars 22-5 overall and 15-4 on frame. Fox led the Jaguars with two attempts and Hall led all players with seven shots.

The Jaguars will cap the 2013 season next weekend with a pair of Summit League road matches. IUPUI will open the two-game swing at Omaha on Nov. 1 at 8:00 p.m. before trekking to South Dakota on Nov. 3 for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff.
