HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. - Coming off a momentous 2-1 Summit League win over Fort Wayne on Saturday (Oct. 19) night, the IUPUI men's soccer team will be immediately back in action as the Jaguars head south to take on Northern Kentucky on Monday (Oct. 21) at 7:00 p.m.. Monday's match can be viewed on ASun TV right at kickoff.
IUPUI (2-10-3) needed a late goal from junior back
Tyler Drumm to get past IPFW at Carroll Stadium on Saturday night, marking the first score of Drumm's career. Freshman
Cristian Soto had staked IUPUI to a 1-0 lead early in the second half before IPFW got equal in the 57th minute. IUPUI responded when
Clint Hoffar sent a long throw into the IPFW box, only to see
Ian Block play the ball back to Drumm. Drumm hammered a shot from in close, easily beating the IPFW goalie.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Eduardo Cortes finished with a season-high nine saves to earn the win. For the year, Cortes has a 1.89 goals against average and 60 saves in 12 starts.
Offensively, Block leads the squad with six points, while sophomore
Lance Davis has two goals and an assist for five points. Both
Jonny Williams and
Michael Sass both have two goals each as well for the Jags.
NKU (5-3-5) will be playing just its third home match of the season on Monday, having played both Bowling Green and North Florida to draws at the NKU Soccer Stadium. Caleb Eastham has led the NKU attack with four goals in just eight games this season and Brendan Murphy has three assists. The Norse have outshot their opponents for the season, averaging 12.2 attempts per game. Defensively, A.J. Fleak has been the team's top goalkeeper, posting a 1.23 goals against average as the team's top netminder.
IUPUI is 1-2 all-time against NKU and 1-1 in the program's Division I era. The Jaguars won last year's meeting 1-0 at Carroll Stadium on a
Kyle Hyland strike. NKU knocked off the Jaguars 1-0 on the road on Sept. 30, 1998 in the program's first season of Division I play.
