INDIANAPOLIS – The IUPUI volleyball team will look for its fifth straight home win when it welcomes Valparaiso to The Jungle on Tuesday, Oct. 15, for a match that will be televised live on HomeTown Sports & News (HTSN).
Veteran broadcaster Greg Rakestraw will be on the call on Tuesday night and Indianapolis-based WebStream Sports will produce the match. The contest can also be seen via the web on the internet and on mobile devices. This will be the first time in the program's Division I era that a home volleyball match will be televised.
"I think it is a big step forward for our program to be seen live on TV so the state can see the type of volleyball program we have at IUPUI," head coach
Steve Payne said. "Just in general, to have volleyball televised is huge and we are fortunate enough to have our match out there so the team can be seen and recognized as a top volleyball program in the state."
The Jaguars have won three consecutive matches, all of which have come at home and in three sets. During this three-match stretch, the IUPUI offense has been clicking on all cylinders hitting a combined .366 while averaging 15.11 kills per set.
Alexis Meeks has led the way averaging 12.78 assists per set during that span, and Meeks was named the Summit League Offensive Player of the Week earlier today after posting 38 assists in IUPUI's three-set sweep over IPFW on Saturday. Meeks' hitters have done their part as well during the three match homestand with
Moriah Fair and
Kelly Wachtel averaging 5.00 and 3.67 kps, while hitting .455 and .492, respectively.
Valparaiso will be a tough test for IUPUI as the Crusaders bring a 15-4 overall record with them to Indianapolis. The Crusaders have a balanced offensive attack with five players averaging over 2.00 kps. Sarah Dooms leads the group averaging 2.52 kps, and collectively Valparaiso is hitting at a .207 clip.
