INDIANAPOLIS – Last weekend, the IUPUI volleyball team picked up a pair of program firsts by defeating South Dakota State on the road for the first time, before earning the program’s first win over North Dakota State an evening later.
This Saturday, the Jaguars look to move their winning streak to three and improve to 5-1 in Summit League play when they host Summit League newcomer Omaha at 5 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 29.
“We took some big steps last weekend picking up wins at two tough places, but that’s over and we need to focus on Omaha,” said head coach
Steve Payne. “Our goal is to win a conference championship and in order to do that, we can’t get too high or too low and we need to focus on our next match.”
Last Friday, IUPUI was led by
Kelsey Hoefer’s season-high 20 kills and
Bethany Fogler’s nine blocks as it won a tough five-set match at South Dakota State. On Saturday, the Jags downed the Bison in four sets behind a balanced offensive attack and 32 digs from
Beth Howard.
Through five conference matches, IUPUI ranks at the top of the Summit League in kills (14.52 kps) and digs (19.24 dps), and the Jaguars are led in those categories by Hoefer’s 3.48 kps and Howard’s 6.10 dps.
ABOUT THE OMAHA MAVERICKS
The Mavericks enter the week with 5-10 overall record and a 0-3 Summit League mark following a defeat on Tuesday at UMKC in five sets.
A major strength for Omaha lies in its serving as they lead the conference in that category averaging 1.54 sa/s.
Offensively, Kelley Wallak leads the UNO offensive attack averaging 2.77 kps.
Saturday’s meeting will be the first between the two schools.
