FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Coming off two wins to open Summit League play last weekend, the IUPUI volleyball team will look to improve to 3-0 in the league on Tuesday, Sept. 18, when it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind., to square off with in-state rival IPFW at 7 p.m.

The Jags will be in search of a 3-0 conference start, which hasn’t happened since the 2009 team started 3-0.

“It was great to get two wins last weekend at home, but these three matches on the road this week, beginning with IPFW, will be a huge test for us,” said head coach Steve Payne. “IPFW is a good team and we’ll need to continue to play like we have the last few matches to get the road win.”

Last weekend, Kelsey Hoefer and Bethany Fogler paced the Jaguars combining for 49 kills while hitting .364 in wins over UMKC and South Dakota. On the season, Fogler is hitting .340 ranking fourth in the league.

Defensively, Beth Howard registered back-to-back 20-dig performances with 27 digs against the Kangaroos and 24 digs vs. the Coyotes. She averaged 6.38 dps, which ranks second in the Summit League in conference-only matches.

ABOUT IPFW

The Mastodons come into Tuesday night’s match with a 10-3 overall record, but IPFW lost its conference opener on the road at Oakland on Friday to fall to 0-1 in the Summit League.

IPFW leads the Summit League in kills per set averaging 14.57 per set, while also hitting at a league-best .247 clip. Emily Spencer ranks third in the conference and leads the team with 4.04 kps, while Jessie Manwaring and Hailie Ripley rank second and third, respectively, in hitting percentage in overall matches hitting .365 and .343.

The Jags are 10-21 all-time against the Mastodons and have lost five consecutive matches to IPFW.  IUPUI’s last win in Fort Wayne was on Nov. 14, 2008.
