MUNCIE, Ind. - Seeking win number one of the 2012 season, the IUPUI women's soccer team will have two opportunities for that initial victory when the Jaguars head to Ball State on Friday (Aug. 31) before hosting Xavier on Sunday (Sept. 2). Friday's kickoff will be at 4:00 p.m. at the Briner Sports Complex before the Jaguars host the Musketeers at 1:00 p.m. at Michael A. Carroll Stadium on Sunday.
Admission to Sunday's match is free of charge and open to the public. Live stats will be available shortly after kickoff of both matches.
Despite the losses, IUPUI (0-4) has shown life offensively recently, getting goals from
Kristin Pierce and
Ashley Doreski the last two times out. Senior
Kelli Parks has the team's lone assist of the season, having set up Doreski's goal at Bowling Green from her defensive spot. Junior
Giselle Guzman has started all four games in goal, notching a 3.18 goals against average and 27 saves between the posts. Classmate
Kristin Haseley has a 3.49 goals against average and nine saves in four relief appearances.
BSU (2-1) has early wins over Xavier and Northern Kentucky this year and is 2-0 at home in 2012. Aubrey Hauenstein and Skylar Chew lead the Cardinals' attack with three points and six different Cards have at least one point this year. Aubrey Buehler has a 1.56 goals against average and 15 saves in three games in net for Ball State.
IUPUI is 1-4-1 all-time against the Cardinals and hasn't won in the series since 1999 at Carroll Stadium.
Xavier (1-3) comes in with just one win, having beaten Lipscomb 2-1 on Aug. 20. Zionsville, Ind.-native Mariah Whitaker leads XU with three points in four starts while Sydnee Fields and Ashton Green also have goals this year. In goal, Katie Markesbery has played the majority of the minutes, accumulating a 2.17 goals against average and 24 saves in four starts.
Sunday's match marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools in women's soccer.
