  • Three players are scoring in double figures for the Broncos led by Aurielle Anderson’s 11.9 ppg. Corie Buchanan and Miracle Woods are the other double-figure scorers at 10.4 ppg and 10.1 ppg, respectively.
  • As a team, the Broncos are shooting 36.1 percent from the floor compared to 43.2 percent for their opponents. The same holds true from behind-the-arc as WMU is shooting 30.3 percent compared to 44.2 percent for its opponents.
  • Julia Henson’s is the team’s top threat from deep hitting 11-of-21 shots from three (52.4 percent).

THE SERIES WITH THE BRONCOS
  • The series is tied at one game apiece with both teams winning on their home floor.
  • The Jaguars took the first game in series history, 70-51, on Dec. 31, 2005.
  • The next year, WMU returned the favor with a 73-61 win on its home floor.

LAST TIME OUT ...
  • For the second game in a row, IUPUI had an opportunity to win the game in the final seconds, but the Jaguars last-second field goal attempt came up short resulting in a 58-57 loss to Youngstown State Monday evening (Dec. 3) at The Jungle.
  • The loss evened IUPUI’s record at 4-4, while the Penguins improved to 6-1.
  • For the second straight game, Kerah Nelson led IUPUI in scoring with 22 points on 10-of-18 shooting, while Brandi Brown paced Youngstown State with a game-high 25 points and 16 rebounds.
  • The first half was one of the wildest halves statistically as Youngstown State connected on 60.9 percent (14-of-23) shots from the floor while outrebounding the Jaguars 22-6. However, IUPUI managed to force the Penguins into 22 first-half turnovers resulting in 20 points off turnovers to keep the Jags within two, 34-32, entering the half.
  • The fast-paced contest was tied at 15 with just less than 12 minutes to play in the opening half until a 7-0 YSU run opened up a 22-15 lead at the midway point of the half.
  • The Youngstown State lead reached 11 points, 34-23, with 3:58 on the clock, but a 9-0 run over the final 3:36 thanks in part to four points from Nelson, three from Katie Comello and two from Demetria Nunley-Lash sent IUPUI into the half on a positive note trailing by just two.
  • Out of the half, the Jags used buckets from Nelson and Nunley-Lash to knot the score at 36 before a Comello runner in the lane gave the Jaguars their first lead of the game, 38-36, with 17:17 to play.
  • Consecutive buckets by Nelson pushed the Jags in front by three, 42-39, with 14:58 on the clock, but a 10-2 run over the next 7:00 re-established a five-point lead for YSU at the under-eight media timeout.
  • Needing a spark, Nicole Rogers came off the bench and broke the Jags out of their offensive slump hitting three triples over the next 2:30 to bring IUPUI within three, 56-53, and a Dawn Luster runner with 1:56 to play put IUPUI back on top, 57-56.
  • On the other end, Brown connected on a lay-up with 1:27 to play to catapult the Penguins back in front by one, but Nelson was fouled trying to get to the bucket with 30 seconds to play giving IUPUI the chance to retake the lead.
  • Unfortunately, Nelson rimmed out both attempts, but the Jags managed to tip out the second missed free throw and set the offense for another attempt to go in front. As IUPUI attempted to get into its offense, a bobbled pass resulted in a jump ball giving the possession to Youngstown State with 20.6 seconds on the clock.
  • After the Jags burned two fouls to get Youngstown State in the bonus, Heidi Schlefel went to the line for a one-and-one. Schlefel went to the line 21-for-22 from the line on the season, but she missed the front end and the Jags got the rebound and called a timeout with 6.7 seconds to play setting things up for one last shot.
  • The Jaguars went to Nelson and she got up the final IUPUI shot with roughly two seconds to go, but the shot just fell off the rim and the Penguins corralled the rebound to preserve the one-point win.
  • Comello joined Nelson in double figures with 10 points, while IUPUI’s leading scorer, DeAirra Goss struggled from the floor hitting just 1-of-12 attempts.

NELSON BACK ON TRACK
  • Coming into the season, Kerah Nelson was selected as a Preseason All-Summit League performer after earning First-Team All-Summit League honors a year ago by averaging 16.2. ppg and 6.1 rpg.
  • However, Nelson got off to a slow start this season averaging just 9.3 ppg and 5.8 rpg through six games.
  • During that six-game stretch, Nelson scored in double figures twice against Valparaiso and Indiana State.
  • However, Nelson has picked up her game in the Jags last two games against Eastern Illinois and Youngstown State.
  • The senior from St. Petersburg, Fla., scored a season-high 24 points against the Panthers on 10-of-19 shooting from the floor. Additionally, Nelson grabbed a season-high nine rebounds.
  • She followed that performance with 22 points and four rebounds in a one-point loss to Youngstown State on Dec. 3.
  • Over the last two games, Nelson is averaging 23.0 ppg, 6.5 rpg and is shooting 54.1 percent (54.1 percent) from the floor.

3-POINT THREAT
  • Trailing by seven points with just less than eight minutes to play against, Nicole Rogers came off the bench and proceeded to deliver three triples in a 3:32 stretch to break the Jags out of an offensive slump and give the Jags a chance to win down the stretch.
  • Although the Jags came up short against the Penguins, Rogers has been a catalyst from deep for the Jags all season and showed it again against Youngstown State.
  • For the season, 23 of Rogers 27 field goal attempts have come from behind-the-arc and all 11 of her made field goals have been triples.
  • The Kokomo, Ind.-native is shooting a team-high 47.8 percent from three and has hit three or more triples in three games this season.
  • In just 5.6 minutes per game, Rogers is averaging 4.4 ppg, but she has proven to be instant offense for IUPUI when it is need of points.

TURNOVERS AND STEALS
  • Coming into Monday’s game against IUPUI, Youngstown State’s season high for turnovers was 19.
  • However, the Penguins had not seen pressure like the Jags as it nearly doubled its previous season-high against IUPUI committing 37 turnovers.
  • Of the 37 turnovers, 20 were steals for the Jags, marking the first time since Dec. 10, 2010, against Southern Illinois that IUPUI had recorded 20 steals in a game.
  • So far this season, the Jaguars are forcing their opponents into 25.8 turnovers per game and own a +6.3 turnover margin.
  • Of the 206 turnovers forced, 93 have been steals averaging out to 11.6 spg.
  • Just once this season has an IUPUI opponent finished a game with less than 20 turnovers and that was Indiana who finished with 16.
