THE SERIES WITH THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
  • Sunday’s meeting between the two schools will be the 35th all-time with Oakland owning a 23-11 lead.
  • In the last meeting, IUPUI snapped Oakland’s eight-game winning streak in the series winning 64-61 at The Jungle.
  • IUPUI is 3-11 all-time when playing the Golden Grizzlies on the road. Its last win at Oakland occurred on Dec. 28, 2005, by a 78-74 margin.
  • Each of the last three meetings has been decided by four points or less.

LAST TIME OUT ...
  • Trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half, Katie Comello led an IUPUI charge scoring a career-high 29 points to send the Jaguars to a 79-74 come-from-behind win in its Summit League opener Friday evening at the Gates Sports Center.
  • The win pushed IUPUI back above .500 at 7-6 overall and 1-0 in the Summit League, while Fort Wayne fell to 4-9 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
  • In addition to Comello’s career-high night, DeAirra Goss added 18 points, while Jordan Barton came off the bench to score a career-high 13 points, 11 of which came in the second half, and add a career-high 11 rebounds for her first career double-double.
  • IUPUI got off to a slow start in the opening minutes falling behind 8-2 by the first media timeout, but it was able to lock down on defense for the next three minutes and use a pair of free throws from Comello and baskets from Goss and Dawn Luster to close within two, 10-8.
  • However, from the 11:18 mark to the 8:09 mark, the Mastodons went on a 17-5 run fueled by three triples to open 27-13 advantage with just over eight minutes to play.
  • Comello broke the run when she got a jumper to fall from the left baseline with 7:48 to play and then made back-to-back triples in a 30-second span to bring IUPUI within eight, 29-21, with 6:44 to go.
  • The frenzied scoring pace continued for the remainder of the half, but a Demetria Nunley-Lash lay-up with 23 seconds to play trimmed IUPUI’s deficit to seven, 46-39, entering halftime.
  • Fort Wayne hit 18-of-29 shots (62.1 percent) from the field in the opening half, while the Jags overcame a 2-for-6 start in the first eight minutes by shooting 13-of-21 (61.9 percent) from the floor in the final 11:35.
  • Out of the half, IUPUI erased its seven-point halftime deficit in less than three minutes thanks to four points from Barton, but Erin Murphy scored the next four points for the Mastodons to quickly put them back on top, 51-47, at the 16:26 mark.
  • Seven consecutive points Barton followed Murphy’s scoring surge, including an old-fashioned three-point play, to give the Jags their first lead of the game, 54-53, with 12:05 remaining.
  • Goss took over from there scoring the Jags next nine points to give them a 63-55 lead with nine minutes to go.
  • With the Jaguars leading by six, 65-59, Fort Wayne managed to go on an 8-0 run of its own to catapult in front, 67-65, at the 6:07 mark.
  • Still trailing by one, 70-69, with 2:14 remaining, the Jaguars managed to buckle down enough defensively and pick up seven points from Comello in the final 1:06 to earn the 79-74 road win.
  • The Jags shot 53.8 percent from the field in the second half and managed to hold the Mastodons to 30.4 percent shooting in the final 20 minutes, including just 1-of-12 shooting from three.

COMELLO’S CAREER NIGHT
  • With IUPUI trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half in its Summit League opener at Fort Wayne, Katie Comello kept the Jaguars in the game in the first half before delivering the final blow in the closing minutes.
  • Comello scored a career-high 29 points against the Mastodons on 8-of-12 shooting from the floor, including 4-of-7 shooting from deep, and 9-of-10 shooting from the charity stripe.
  • Comello scored 20 of IUPUI’s 39 first-half points hitting on 6-of-8 shot attempts and 5-of-6 attempts from the line.
  • After scoring just two points in the first 18:54 of the second half, Comello scored seven points in the final 1:06 to break a 70-70 tie and send the Jaguars to a 79-74 victory.
  • The 29 points are the most scored by a Jags player this season and Comello also set a new career high with six steals.

GOSS BACK ON TRACK
  • DeAirra Goss started her IUPUI career with back-to-back 20-point performances earlier this season in the Jags opener against Grace College and at Wright State.
  • Goss scored 24 points in 24 minutes in the season-opener vs. Grace, before tacking on 22 points in a four-point loss at Wright State on Nov. 14.
  • Goss shot lights out those first two comes connecting on 18-of-27 shots (66.7 percent), including 4-of-6 (66.7) from three.
  • However, despite scoring in double figures seven times in the nine games following the Wright State game, Goss averaged just 11.1 ppg for IUPUI as it went 5-4.
  • However, over the last two games, Goss has gotten back on track and is averaging 21.0 ppg over IUPUI’s last two outings.
  • The junior from Ben Davis High School scored a season-high tying 24 points against Purdue on Dec. 21 on 9-of-23 shooting, before chipping in 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting in a road win at Fort Wayne on Dec. 28.
  • In the second half alone against Fort Wayne, Goss stuffed the stat sheet scoring 11 points and grabbing four rebounds, while dishing out two assists and picking up two steals.

DOUBLING UP
  • Redshirt sophomore Jordan Barton came off the bench and provided the Jaguars a huge lift in a 79-74 win over Fort Wayne in their Summit League opener.
  • Barton finished with a career-high 13 points and grabbed a career-best 11 rebounds en route to claiming her first career double-double.
  • It marked the second time this season an IUPUI player recorded a double-double. Akilah Sims first claimed one against Goshen College on Dec. 9 with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • What was even more impressive about Barton’s double-double is that she scored 11 of her 13 points and grabbed eight of her 11 rebounds in the second half.
  • Barton scored nine of her 11 second-half points from the 17:27 mark to the 12:04 mark, helping the Jags take a 54-53 lead - their first of the game.

TURNOVERS AND STEALS
  • Coming into its game against IUPUI on Dec. 3, Youngstown State’s season high for turnovers was 19.
  • However, the Penguins had not seen pressure like the Jags as they nearly doubled their previous season-high against IUPUI committing 37 turnovers.
  • Of the 37 turnovers, 20 were steals for the Jags, marking the first time since Dec. 10, 2010, against Southern Illinois that IUPUI had recorded 20 steals in a game.
  • Additionally, the 22 turnovers forced against Purdue on Dec. 21 was the second-highest amount for the Boilermakers this season. Their highest turnover output was 25 against No. 2 Connecticut.
  • So far this season, the Jaguars aggressive, up-tempo defense has forced their opponents into 25.5 turnovers per game and IUPUI owns a +5.2 turnover margin.
  • Of the 331 turnovers forced, 149 have been steals averaging out to 11.5 spg.
  • The 25.5 turnovers forced per game by IUPUI is tops in the Summit League by 8.0 turnovers per game, and its 11.4 steals per game is also tops in the Summit League.
  • Just once this season has an IUPUI opponent finished a game with less than 20 turnovers and that was Indiana -  the Hoosiers finished with 16.

CHARGING BACK
  • Prior to IUPUI’s game against Valparaiso on Nov. 17, the Jaguars were 0-38 under head coach Austin Parkinson in games when they trailed with five minutes to play.
  • This season, the Jags have won four games when trailing or tied with five minutes to go.
  • In IUPUI’s win over Valparaiso (Nov. 17), the Jaguars trailed by two points at the five-minute mark before rallying to pick up the victory. It was the team’s first victory under Parkinson when trailing with five minutes to play.
  • The Jaguars were able to earn the victory by using a 10-3 run from the 4:44 mark to the 1:33 mark.
  • During that run, both DeAirra Goss and Nevena Markovic scored four points, while Dee-Dee Bellamy added a fast-break lay-up off a steal from Markovic.
  • Since that win over Valparaiso, the Jags have rallied back for wins twice when trailing with five minutes to go.
  • IUPUI trailed by seven at the five minute mark against Indiana State before closing the game on a 23-12 run to earn the four-point win.
  • Katie Comello ignited the run scoring 11 of her game-high tying 16 points in a two-minute stretch.
  • Behind Comello, DeAirra Goss, and Akilah Sims, the Jaguars managed to overcome a three-point deficit in the final five minutes to defeat Belmont, 61-53.
  • Against Belmont, the Jags last 19 points came from Comello, Sims and Goss and IUPUI managed to close the game.
  • Even though IUPUI didn’t trail with five minutes to play against Fort Wayne on Dec. 28, the Jags trailed by as many as 14 points in the first half before rallying back to earn the five-point win.
  • The largest deficit IUPUI has ever overcome to earn a win was 16 points and the Jags have done it twice.
  • They first did it against Minnesota on Dec. 31, 2000 and then duplicated the feat nearly four years later on Jan. 31, 2005, against Kansas City.
