VALPARAISO, Ind. – Following a brief stay at home, the IUPUI volleyball team will head back on the road for a three-game, seven-day road trip beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 23, when the Jaguars head to Valparaiso, Ind., to take on the Valparaiso Crusaders.
Tuesday’s match-up is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
The Jags are coming off a pair of wins over North Dakota State and South Dakota last weekend, improving IUPUI to 16-8 overall and 9-3 in the Summit League.
The Jaguars earned the wins thanks to a balanced offensive attack in which four players averaged over 2.50 kills per set led by
Moriah Fair’s 4.14 kps.
Defensively,
Kaitlyn Hickey and
Beth Howard both averaged over 5.00 digs per set, and
Bethany Fogler continued her strong blocking averaging 1.14 blocks per set.
Not only did the wins give IUPUI regular-season sweeps over the Bison and the Jackrabbits, but it also moved the Jaguars into sole possession of second place in the Summit League standings. IUPUI trails Fort Wayne by half a game with three conference weekends remaining.
Valparaiso enters the mid-week non-conference match-up against the Jaguars with a 14-10 overall mark and a 6-3 Horizon League record.
The Crusaders have three players averaging over 2.00 kps, led by Ellen Vanden Berg’s 2.55 kps.
Defensively, Taylor Root anchors the back-row defense with 5.52 dps, while Vanden Berg also leads the team in blocking averaging 1.10 bps.
Valparaiso leads the all-time series between the schools, 19-13, but IUPUI snapped the Crusaders 12-game winning streak in the series with a 3-1 win last season in Indianapolis.
