Oral Roberts 3, IUPUI 0
INDIANAPOLIS – Three players recorded double-digit kills for Oral Roberts and the Golden Eagles out-dug IUPUI 55 to 36 resulting in a 3-0 win for ORU over IUPUI Friday evening at the Jungle.
Kalyse Reimbold led the Jaguars with 13 kills and hit .444 for the match, but defensively, the Jags couldn’t contain the Golden Eagles offensive attack as ORU finished the evening with a .343 hitting percentage collectively.
Two aces and a kill by
Beth Howard helped the Jaguars jump out to an 11-7 lead in the opening set before a five-point ORU spurt put the Golden Eagles on top, 12-11, forcing IUPUI to burn its first timeout. A kill from
Kortni Wright put the Jags back on top, 17-16, but that would be IUPUI’s last lead of the set. With the score knotted at 19, ORU won six of the next eight points to win set one, 25-21.
A slow start followed in set two as ORU forced IUPUI to burn both of its timeouts as it led 13-5. With their deficit cut to five, 21-16, a Golden Eagles service error, an
Alexis Meeks service ace, and kills by Reimbold and Wright brought the Jags within one point. Following a kill by Oral Roberts, kills by Reimbold and
Kelsey Hoefer evened the score at 22 giving the Jags all the momentum, but after an exchange of side outs ensued, consecutive kills from Joana Gruber gave Oral Roberts a 25-23 set-two win.
In the third set, Oral Roberts took the lead on the first point and never looked back. The Golden Eagles slowly pushed their lead to as many as eight points, 18-10, before a pair of kills by Reimbold, an
Ellyn Jones service ace, and a
Meredith Farkas kill helped bring the Jags within four points, 20-16, but that would be as close as IUPUI reached. Down the stretch, ORU proved to be too much as it finished off the Jaguars, 25-19, to secure the win.
With the loss, the Jags fell to 5-10 overall and 0-4 in league play, while the Golden Eagles upped their record to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in league action.
IUPUI is back in action on Saturday, Sept. 24, when it welcomes Southern Utah to The Jungle for a 7 p.m. start.
