INDIANAPOLIS - The IUPUI women's soccer team will face a pair of stiff tests over the weekend as the start of the 2011 fall campaign is upon us. The Jaguars will open the year at Miami (Ohio) on Friday (Aug. 19) before then heading west to play Indiana State on Sunday (Aug. 21). Friday's kickoff is set for 5:00 p.m. at Miami Soccer Field and Sunday's match will begin at 1:00 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.

IUPUI is 0-2 all-time against Miami as the two teams haven't played since the 1999 season. The Jaguars are 4-6-1 all-time against Indiana State, having dropped a 1-0 decision to the Sycamores a year ago.

IUPUI dropped its lone preseason contest in a 5-1 outcome at Illinois State last Sunday. The Jaguars trailed 1-0 at halftime, but knotted the game at 1-1 in the opening minutes of the second half on a Sarah Carlisle score. However, the Redbirds scored four unanswered tallies including the final three in a 2:29 span late in the match. The Jaguars return 10 of 11 starters from a year ago, including First Team All-Summit League forward Megan Hock and second team defender Margaret Allgeier. Three others earned All-Newcomer honors in Sarah Colby, Sammi Deer and Sarah Wong.

Miami is led by junior forward Jess Kodiak who totaled eight goals and eight assists for the 13-7-2 RedHawks last season. Miami beat Wright State in exhibition action, playing to a 2-2 draw before outlasting the Raiders 4-1 in penalty kicks. Alison Gasparovich keys the Indiana State attack, having scored a school record three goals a year ago. During the preseason, ISU beat Eastern Illinois and played Morehead State to a 1-1 tie.
