INDIANAPOLIS - Senior forward Megan Hock took over as IUPUI's all-time leading goal scorer by netting the 32nd of her career, albeit in a 3-2 loss to Oakland at Kuntz Stadium on Sunday (Oct. 30).

"It was a relief," Hock said. "I had a couple of good opportunities and I just didn't capitalize on them.

"Coach (Johnson) kept telling me, you know Megan, the next one's going in, the next one's going in. That's all I could think about - I had to put a number on the board."

Oakland (8-10-1, 6-2-1 Summit) jumped in front in the 33rd minute when Shannon Doyle beat Giselle Guzman with a shot from the right side for her first goal of the year. The OU lead was short-lived though as IUPUI pulled even less than two minutes later.

Junior Kelli Parks toe poked a pass to freshman Taylor Heidorn in space, who angled a long shot past OU goalkeeper Melissa MacKinnon for her sixth goal of the season.

However, that seemingly only awakened the Oakland attack, which dominated possession for the first 45 minutes. Reynolds made it 2-1 in the 40th minute when she made a difficult turn on her defender before whirling a drive through traffic and past Guzman. Just more than three minutes later, Jordan Penz made it 3-1 when she settled a corner kick just outside the six-yard box and drilled a shot to Guzman's right.

Oakland finished the first half with a 10-3 shot advantage while playing with the wind at their back.

The second half was played much more evenly as the Jaguars attack went largely through Hock and the left flank. Hock, who was playing with a heavy brace on her knee, created a chance in the 67th minute but had her shot go wide of the left post. It was finally action in the 80th minute that led to her record setting goal.

An initial breakaway got Hock in the clear, but the senior's initial strike was knocked down by OU goalkeeper Anne Berschbach. Classmate Alicia Brock got a clean look at the rebound, but had her try pushed just over the crossbar, setting up a corner kick. Sophomore Kristin Pierce drove the corner kick into the Oakland box, but had it sent right back at her. The sophomore sent a well composed short pass to Hock, who redirected the ball to the left side of the net, setting off a well deserved celebration.

"We always stick together as a team," Hock said. "They really wanted me to get this. They were trying to play through me. I was open more than normal, they played me and it went in."

"It was amazing. I was such a relief today," Allgeier said of Hock's goal. "It's been over our heads for like seven or eight games now, and to be on the field with her and to watch her do it was great."

Hock tied IUPUI Hall of Famer Karrie Reising for the school record on Sept. 30 with a goal at UMKC and broke the record after going seven straight games without a score.

IUPUI (3-12-4, 2-6-1) had a chance to tie the game with under two minutes left, but Brock had her breakaway attempt knocked down by an OU defender before it could get to goal. She left the rebound chance behind for Heidorn, but the IUPUI freshman fired wide right.

Oakland finished with a 22-14 shot advantage and 7-1 edge in corner kicks. Hock led the Jaguars with four attempts while Brock and Heidorn had three each. Defensively, Guzman made nine stops including snaring a slew of breakaway attempts. Berschbach led three OU keepers with three saves and Payj O'Shea, who started and played 31 minutes, made one save.

Sunday's game marked the final college contest for nine seniors, all of whom were rewarded with a start. While Hock finishes as the program's all-time leader in goals and game-winners, classmate Margaret Allgeier ends her career as the program's all-time leader in games started and games played from her defensive spot. Brock is ranked third on IUPUI's all-time list in goals scored in her four-year career.
