ELMHURST, Ill. – For the second time this season, IUPUI volleyball middle hitter
Bethany Fogler was tabbed the Summit League Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Fogler was a first-time winner of the weekly honor back on Sept. 6, following a weekend in which she set a school record for most block assists in a three-set match with nine against Marshall on Sept. 3.
This past week, the Fort Wayne, Ind.-native totaled 14 blocks in seven sets, averaging out to 2.00 bps, upping her conference-leading blocks average to 1.20 bps. The highlight of the weekend came in a 3-0 win over UMKC, in which the Jaguars struggled offensively and used their blocking to pick up key points.
Against the Kangaroos, Fogler posted 10 total blocks (two solo blocks and eight block assists), tying the school record for most total blocks in a match and setting a new record for most total blocks in a three-set match.
In addition to her two solo blocks against UMKC, Fogler also added another solo block in the 3-1 win over South Dakota on Friday, Sept. 30, giving her 14 on the season and moving her into a tie for eighth on IUPUI’s single-season solo blocks chart.
IUPUI returns to Summit League action on Saturday, Oct. 8, when it travels to Western Illinois looking for its fourth consecutive win. The match is set to begin at 8 p.m. ET.
