ELMHURST, Ill. – Last weekend, the IUPUI men’s swimming and diving team kicked off their home schedule with an impressive win over Eastern Illinois and in helping the team pick up the win, Tony Carroll was named the Summit League Men’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week, the conference office announced today.

The weekly honor is the first of Carroll’s career and the first for any IUPUI swimmer this season.

The Granger, Ind.-native opened the meet with a narrow victory in the 200 IM, clocking in at 1:59.23 to win the race by .59 seconds over EIU’s Michael Lacine.

In the 200 backstroke, Carroll cruised to a victory touching the wall in 1:57.37, before pacing the 400 freestyle relay squad to a time of 3:17.02 with an opening-leg swim of 48.07.

“Tony has been strong in these first two meets of the season,” said head coach Matt Bos. “He has a great deal of potential and hopefully this is the first of many honors to come.”

The Jaguars return to the pool on Friday, Oct. 28, when they host a tri-meet against Butler and Centre College at the IUPUI Natatorium. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
